COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

12 oz. bottle poured to my SA pint glass at home, showing a clear, brownish copper color, with a modest amount of cream/light tan head foam that diminished rather quickly to a ring and film, and left some wavey spots & spray on the glass. The nose was toasty, with notes of caramel sweetness, light malt, light graininess, a touch of cocoa, and an underlying nuttiness. The flavor was similar, the body was medium, and a lively carbonation accentuated the moderate hop which was lightly earthy, and lingered nicely into the finish with a light, bitter bite. Decently sessionable!

Crisp clear deep brown coloured body with a pungent ruby tint and a nice, one centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of earth, mushrooms, dirt, malt and a bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty flavour at first with a good, pungent malt kick and a strong earthiness showing a definite earthy bite and a full-flavoured toffee finish - definitely a full-flavoured beer for the style. Aftertaste shows the nuttiness of course, a bunch of earthy malts, some alcohol warmth and a good and robust caramel flavour. Overall, I wish I could say bad things about this one, but it does simply live up to another great beer from the brewery - much more flavour than most in this style and no bitterness, no harshness and a nice robust flavour which goes well in the autumn/winter. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Festival Foods (de Pere) in Green Bay, Wisconsin on 29-July-2012 for US$1.50 sampled at home in Washington on 08-November-2012.

Fat squirrel pours a rich deep rust brown with a very thin head of small white bubbles. Nose is sweet nut happiness. Taste is slightly nutty with just a hint of sweet malt. ends with just a hint of nutty dry finish.
