COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

I have tried a number of nutty beers but this one tops them all! If this is on tap at a bar or restaruant, I always ask for it! I love it served real cold (which I typically donít like) and in a tall glass! Give me more please!

Thanks to HisBoyElroy on the split. This beer pours a very dark red color with minimal head. It has a fresh light hop aroma. Not a whole ton of flavor. A bit of a copper hop note with a refreshing quenching flavor. A slight amber flavor. Average beer here to me yet unique.

12 oz bottle: Pours chestnut brown with a nice tan head and ample CO2 release. Aroma of nutty toasted malts with a hint of cheap American lager that kills the warm nuttyness. Taste is good roasted malts, nothing too fancy or overpowering. Palate is a little harsh but ultimately goes down smooth. Pretty good overall.

Pours a clear, copper color, with a generous, tan head that faded fast. Sparse lacing. The nose is toasted grain and caramel, malt, and notes of nuts and a mild hop bite. The flavor is mildly sweet. Medium bodied brew with lively carbonation. Very nice!

I am a huge fan of this brewery, but this style is just not my thing. Not much of an aroma, brown in color, with not much of a head on the pour. Hints of coffee (which I donít drink) and hazelnut. Very earthy flavor. Love the brewer, not the style.

Nuts, caramel, and toffee dominate the aroma on this brown ale. All follow onto the palate. Finishes with an interesting earthy nutty flavor.

While visiting Wisconsin I found New Glarus Fat Squirrel. I found it to be one of the best craft brewed beers I have tasted. Too bad it is only sold in Wisconsin.

Bottle. Pours a medium-deep chestnut color with an off-white head, superior retention and lacing. Nose is caramel, nuttiness, hops, toasted bread. Mouth is medium bodied, those same caramel malts, dates, mild sweetness that fades quickly, not much of a finish body. I find brown ales to be a feast or famine style and this one isnít really all that Iíd hoped it would be... a bit weak to be honest. Plenty of squirrels up here in the Dells but I havenít seen any actual fat ones... but it is the end of a very long winter, so thatís not surprising.

Not a very strong smell when the bottle is cracked. It is a slightly darker beer in appearance and feels amazing in your mouth. Not so sure about the taste ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Light brown amber with light brown head. Nose is sweet malt caramel. A little coffee?
