Itís a cool October night in Madison. We roll into the neighborhood haunt, three young folks ready to unwind after a long day. Whatís on tap? The usual macros, plus Spotted Cow, a Capitol Brewery seasonal, and Tyranenaís Bitter Woman IPA. Hmm... a pitcher of Spotted Cow? Sure. Wait, oh I didnít see, theyíve got Fat Squirrel too! Yeah, letís go with that!

About as nice an ale as I've had. Simple, nutty, malty and pleasantly sweet with slight bitterness at the end. Perfectly balanced and easy to drink.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I purchased an individual bottle of this directly from the New Glarus brewery. Poured into a pint glass with a dark copper hue and a moderate head that left behind a nice lacing. This beer smelled malty with hints of nuttiness. The taste was smooth with the malt and nut combining together nicely. There was also just a bit of hop bitterness. Yet again New Glarus has made a fantastic beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear orange/brown color with a tan head. The smell is toasted malt, spice, brown bread, caramel. The taste is caramel, toasted malt, it is dry, herbal and spicy with some fruitiness on the end. Light/medium in body with average carbonation. Nice cold weather beer...

Bottle. Brown with a tan head. The aroma was nutty malt while the flavor was the same with some hints of caramel. It was fairly well balanced.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A very enjoyable beer. Iím not sure Iíd call it hazelnut. It has a nice brown color and strong malt aroma. I found a noticable alcohol flavor on the finish and wondered at the strength. Would be great with shepherds pie or beef stew.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Not really impressed by this beer. Malty with a weird yeast fuzziness. Toast and carbonation. Thin on the tongue. I have to say in general pretty disappointing.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a Newcastle schooner glass (infinitely better beer than Newcastle, by the way), a reddish brown colour with creamy beige foam, lasting with lace. Exquisite aromas of malt, brown bread, fruitcake, earthy/flowery English hops. Dried apricots and cranberries. Flavour was similar, even maltier, nice aromatic toasty complexity (go Victory malt!), not especially roasty, cacao nibs, and mild coffee, more tart stone fruit reminiscent of top-cropped, open-fermented Yorkshire ale yeast esters, great Fuggly balance. Medium body and carbonation, lingering multi-layered aftertaste. Crazy delicious, an especially great example of a great style. Too bad these are only sold in Wisconsin, I could drink it everyday. Thanks Andy!

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from variety pack. Pours a light reddish brown, minimal head. Huge aromas of malt and hazelnuts. Very thin on the palate. Nothing special.
