beerwolf77 (42), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 30, 2009 Poured froma bottle into a pint glass. The beer is burnt orange in color. The head is enormus. At least 2 inches. It slowy fades leaving a creamy beige cap that rest nicely on top of the beer like a little blanket holding in all the hop goodness. It smells oh so hoppy. Some caramel sweetness but piney citrus is very present. The taste is much like the aroma. Very piney. Sour citrus is a major flavor as well. The malt helps round out the flavor so it isn’t overtly hopped up. Medium body. With plenty of carbonation that helps it bite the tongue with every sip. This is a very drinkable hopped up ale. Yet another winner from NG.
BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Jul 29, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma is of bitter, earthy hops, caramel, citrus, malt, and pine. Smells very earthy. Taste is of bitter, juicy citrus hops to start off. Has a strong caramel malt backbone to even out the hops. Lingering taste of citrus and pine. The whole beer comes of as very earthy. Mouthfeel is medium and sticky. Slight alcohol burn in the finish. Not too bitter, but has a good amount of hops to it. Very drinkable as well. tmoreau (528), Lombard, Illinois, USA Jul 28, 2009 12 oz. bottle share. Poured to a hi-ball glass with orange/amber color, an off white, foamy head, and spotty but clingy lacing. The aroma was toasty malt, and some caramel malt and fruit sweetness. The flavor was the same, adding some low hop bitterness. More of a Pale Ale in the UK style or the bottle was showing some age. Still a flavorful brew. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Jul 22, 2009 I was expecting an IPA. Actually, a very traditional IPA, with a hearty balance of malt to the hop. stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA Jul 20, 2009 Pours a reddish-amber with off white head. The nose is citrus/floral hops and some medium caramel malt. Comes across the palate malty with strong flavorful hop presence. Significant bitterness with a pleasantly soft edge. Medium body and texture, crisp finish.
JoeMcPhee (4911), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 5, 2009 Deep amber coloured beer. Thin head. The aroma is lightly hoppy. Light pine with a sort of sweet fruitiness as well. Fairly deep maltiness with a lot of chewy sweetness. Some light medium crystal and maybe some darker Munich-type base malts. There is a bit of light citrusy character. It’s tasty enough, but it’s nothing special either. Sort of indistinct because the hops are completely overwhelmed by the sweetness. fidelis83 (709), Clinton, Iowa, USA Jul 1, 2009 Pours clear copper with amber highlights and a 2 finger, chunky, off white head that has great retention and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is citrus, pine, and leafy hops, some dark caramel and tofee and a bit of biscuit. Flavor is dark caramel, toasted grain, biscuit, melon, berries... then come the hops lots of pine and a little citrus come in near the finish with a decent amount of bitterness. This stuff really lets the malt have it’s 15 minutes before the hops crash the party. Finish is citrus, planty and somewhat less pine hops with a burnt sugar finish. Palate is medium to thin and dry with a somewhat "juicy feel". Similar to Two Hearted, where it sort of makes you salivate like fruit juice to the point where you can feel the separation of the two different liquids inside your mouth. At least I think that’s what’s going on... Overall this is a really good IPA the hop profile is a little more "English" than I generally like but it carries it well. Good stuff for sure. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Jun 26, 2009 Reddish copper colour with a thick pillowy off white head.
Resiny hop aroma, some citrus as well, over a toasty caramel maltiness.
Smooth flavour, much more malt forward than expected. Good malt sweetness With a liittle burnt caramel bitterness playing with the balanced subtle hop bitter finish that’s a bit of a creeper.
How did they manage to make the Aroma so hop forward and the flavour so deep and malty??
