illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 26, 2006 Bottle thanks to Rooftoprogue. Pours translucent amber with red highlights and white head. Spicy hop aroma. Malt backbone that is toasty with hints of caramel, offset by some bitter spicy hops. Earthy and tea like. Parts of this remind me of Tyraena Bitter Woman. Not bad
marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Aug 26, 2006 Updated: Jan 19, 2009Bottle. Strong hops aroma with roasted quality and citrus undertones - strong pineapple aromas. Good dark amber color with full bodied head. Flavor is strong hops with a full bitter lasting finish. Solid on the palate. No complaints. Filling but drinkable. My favorite IPA so far. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 24, 2006 Updated: Nov 9, 2007Quite nice yet not real distinctive -- all the notes seem middle ground. Perhaps just too typical of one of my favorite styles. Tons of hops. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Aug 22, 2006 Bottle. Man, was I in the mood for a good pale tonight. This pours great: nice deep copper with a very impressive dense, white head. It sits on top to form a rocky terrain. The aroma is very complete and makes my mouth water. There are grapefruit and pine, caramel and green tea among a boquet my nose is too feeble to isolate. It’s robust all around and obviously slightly favors the hop scents, but for an IPA, it’s certainly not one-sided. The flavor is something of a let down, but only because the aroma is so awesome. It just isn’t fair to the tongue that this ale smells so rich. Please, don’t get me wrong, this is damned tasty. Some fresh cut barley is noticed beneath the zesty pine and grassy notes. The grapefruit is not here so much in the taste. There is an excellent display of dense caramel, the alcohol is noticeable far off in the finish. It makes me wonder if that’s the hops lingering or just a touch of burn. This is definitely a winner. realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA Aug 22, 2006 Updated: Mar 26, 200712oz bottle (thanks to buckybeer) poured a deep hazy amber color with a huge tan head and nice lacing on the glass. Aromas were of resinous hops and dark carmel malts. Taste was hoppy, but not too bitter with an excellant malt backing. Overall a nice complex IPA with good malting to balance the hops. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Aug 20, 2006 Thanks to iowaherkeye for throwing this in. Dark amber body with a fairly large head and good lacing. Aroma is spicy, fruity, grassy, flowery hops with a caramel background. Oily mouthfeel, medium bodied. I liked it more as the bottle emptied. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Aug 18, 2006 Holy hops Batman! Pours medium amber with small head. Obviously aroma is of wonderful hops and pine. Tastes of grapefruit and mild malts. Very nice IPA. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Aug 17, 2006 12oz. bottle. Clear orange/amber color with a small white head. Nicely balanced aroma of pine and grapefruit hops along with caramel malts. Flavor was also well balanced, but much more muted than the aroma. Pine, citrus and caramel malt are the dominant flavors.
