grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Jun 19, 2006 Updated: Oct 5, 2008Nice amber color with foamy light tan head. Nice crisp hoppy aroma. Citrus flavor with a touch of caramel in the background. Nice and smooth palate. Nice and sweet with a solid hop presence, perfect flavor for an IPA. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Jun 17, 2006 From a 12 oz. twist cap long neck brown bottle with a blurb and info on the upper right side of label, no bottled/freshness date.
Made a good appearance, poured a slightly hazy orange hued amber with a foamy beige head that settled into a thin foamy lacing with some ringed sticking, good even carbonation.
Had a hoppy nose, fresh dry leafy spruce, floral, a spicy earthiness, and a subtle tropical fruitiness with a very light sweet maltiness far back at the edges of the aroma.
A crisp, dry, soft hop textured and creamy smooth medium bodied mouth feel, very good AIPA drinkability.
Nice smooth hop taste, tasty without being a taste bud killer, dry leafiness, floral, spicy earthiness and a light tropical fruity, a balanced and rolling bitterness in the palate, a submerged sweet grainy maltiness that stays beneath the hops and a dry hoppy finish.
An tasty and balanced AIPA from a first rate brewer, one of my favorites from New Glarus, hard to pick a favorite when this brewer does so many styles well, a must try for AIPA fans.
mdi (573), Nebraska, USA Jun 17, 2006 12oz bottle. Many thanks, Brent! Wow...the setting sun hits the becher revealing a rich, deep copper color...thick tan head leaves plenty of lace. Nice nose...a mix of earthy pepperiness and more dominate citrus notes playing on a background of carmelly malt...a resinous quality to the aroma as well. First impression: Where is the bitterness? Finish seems more malty sweet than bitter...this beer drinks like a mini version of the BW. Malty and bready with an undercurrent of hops. with just a touch of lingering resin. After the pour and aroma, I had visions of something a little more hoppy and intense. Maybe they just don’t grow them that way in WI. Still a pleasure to drink though. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Jun 16, 2006 Bottle. Probably one of the most attractive beers I have ever seen. Deep honey color with a thick head that lasts. Nose is caramel and sticky PNW hops. Taste-smooth caramel, really well done hops, pepper, perfect sweetness, tea, creamy, grapefruit, bitter shows up on the backend. A very well done IPA that is true to style. IN this day and age of brewing, it seems that every brewer feels the need to push the envelope on hops in their IPA’s, wanting to hop it so much that it stands out but not enough to call it an IIPA. New Glarus has brought pride back to the IPA’s with a solid, drinkable, balanced beer that even goes as far as to look great! Kudos. segfault (98), Centennial, Colorado, USA Jun 12, 2006 Thanks, alaskanwarren. A nice off-white head caps the clear orangey pour. Aroma of Goldings with citrus notes. No malt aroma I can detect. A DRY palate, slight citurs oil. Flavor of grapefruit peel, hop, toasty, and very astringent. Iced-tea like, not sweet. "Hop it" on the label seems to fit. Dry, no pine. The Goldings shine! In my opinion, needs more maltiness to achieve balance. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA May 28, 2006 clear amber body with a small white head that swam to the sides of the glass soon after the pour.excellent hoppy aroma of pine, citrus, and ice tea.nice hop bite in the palate with flavors of pine resin, citurs, ice tea,and caramel malts in the flavor.this is a very well balanced ipa that works well on hot days like today. pkbites (309), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 21, 2006 The roasted hop aroma will get you. One of the best smelling beers ever. Deep tan body with nice rich head. Bitter, but not as bitter as expect considering all the hops. Flavor is shockingly light UNTIL swallowed. Then a burst of complex aftertaste hits the palate. The timing of the flavor and caramel notes is masterful. WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA May 20, 2006 Nice looking beer. Grapefruit and pine hops are the primary factor. Finishes with an interesting hint of spice that is dry and metallic. Caramel malts in the background seem subdued, and this beer comes across as mildly dry. Decent mouthfeel and balance, but seems a little too grassy. Need to get a different batch to compare and maybe rate again.
