jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Mar 24, 2006 Caramel + grass. The other raters said it all. Good, but not great. Possibly too much grassy hop flavor. More malt and citrus/pine hop flavors would make this an excellent beer, Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 15, 2006 I don’t know what it is about this beer but I swear to god i’ve had something exactly like it. It has a distinctively caramel aroma and flavor. It has a kind of fart aroma that reminds of Hopdevil. That’s it! Up front it’s not that bitter but the finish stays bitter. Another exceptional and unique beer from New Glarus. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA Mar 4, 2006 Pours orangish amber with a good sized white head. Strong aroma of piney hops and citrus with some sweet malt accents. Flavor follows aroma, but also introduces a slight bitterness. ElBorracho (472), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 4, 2006 Bottle. Pours dark orange with a foamy white head. Piney hops lead the charge with a caramel malts and floral notes rounding it out. I found this one to be a rather unique IPA but not a home run. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Feb 18, 2006 Updated: May 27, 2006Update! Just got back from the brewery this weekend and need to rerate with a fresh bottle. 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear amber orange with a small white head. Aroma of hops--Grapefruit and pine with a fair amount of resin--with a nice sweet toffee malt backbone. Moderate bitterness throughout, but about midway through the swallow malty sweetness shows up for a moment, then it’s gone again, which gives way to a slight lingering pine bitterness. Very delicious. (old rating, 7,3,7,3,14)
tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Feb 10, 2006 Received by trade from 1FastSti. Pours orange/amber with a highly sticky, creamy head. The head clings to the glass just like it ought to. Tons of bubbles rush to the to. I pleasing blend of hop resign and sweet malt fills each nostril with every whiff. Ahh found that problem. Not nearly as bitter as I’d expected, to a fault. There is some mild hop flavor, and some sweetness, but this maybe one of the blandest IPAs I’ve ever had. Full, sticky mouthfeel is nice. Pretty boarderline between IPA and APA. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t pass it up if offered. This is my 20th IPA rating. MikeMac (185), Wyandotte, Michigan, USA Feb 2, 2006 Pours a burnt orange slightly translucent with a almost creamy foamy head that dissappears. Hop citrus aroma with a buttery scent in a backround. Cascade and Kent hops definetly in the aroma and the flavor. a nice balance of citrus and bitternes. Not over powering but pleasant. Nothing huge but would drink one again maybe a future daily drinker beerprincess (51), Indiana, USA Feb 2, 2006 Nice orange, amber color. Nice head with the lace lasting on the side of the glass. Citrus, floral nose with a crisp palate. The flavor reveals some hops but not what I would expect from a "Hearty Hop". Still tastes great though!
