frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jan 31, 2006 My glass fills with gentle effervescence and a ghost of a haze within a pure copper body. A creamy head holds as a small cap. Initial aroma was of opening a jar of Lipton® sweetened iced tea with lemon, replete with dustiness. Very lemony and the hops are fresh, green and abundant. Flavor holds a tart bitterness, above all else, balanced with a malt backbone that adds some sweetness without standing in the way of this beer’s hoppy intent. "Wet" palate with light spice in the finish.
I tallied my numbers to total a "4.1" and felt that this was an excellent, hoppy IPA. I guessed that my hop-headed brethren
<a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=14352>Cornfield and <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=18266> RAYBOY01 would give it a 4.3 and 3.9 respectively. These are guys that like their beer as spicy as their food. They laugh in the face of IBU’s and think that Jabañero peppers could stand a bit more heat. I was spot-on for RAYBOY’s total, but I overshot the mark on Cornfield by 0.7. Curious.

malachi (62), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 20, 2006 Golden orange pour with a small diminishing head. No strong aroma, probably the glass again. Only hops. Slightly metallic flavor, much more bitter finish than expected. Good, but not the hops taste I enjoy from Three Floyds. cperry8483 (41), Platteville, Wisconsin, USA Jan 9, 2006 Not the sharp, bitter, dry hop flavor that I prefer, but more of the floral, aromatic, slightly sweet hop flavor that most people prefer. Closer to an Alpha King than a Sierra Nevada or Titan, Hop Hearty Ale will appeal to lovers of the former rather than the latter. A very smooth pale ale, but not one that I would buy again. RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Jan 2, 2006 This beer says hello with the hearty fragrance of roasted hops and the background aroma of clove. It is a wet cinnamon color with a decent sized head to its credit. This beer flows over the tongue in a thin manner. It slowly grabs the tongue with a taste of hops and caramel then fades back to hoppy as it is swallowed. thenewfbi (7), Portland, Oregon, USA does not count Dec 8, 2005 This was my favorite back when I lived in Wisconsin. Very tasty. I wish we were able to get it out here in Oregon. Oh how I miss it. mamabeer (39), Urbana, Illinois, USA Dec 6, 2005 Floral hoppiness really hits you in aroma and flavor! Definitely bitter, but doesn’t bite. This is one for all hopheads to enjoy. lostcoat (3), Brooklyn, New York, USA does not count Nov 29, 2005 My girlfriend brought this back from wi, and it is one of the best ipa i have every had. It had a very fresh hoped taste and went great with my turkey burger..I would love to know where in NYC to get this beer... dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Nov 22, 2005 Updated: Mar 11, 2008hoppy flowery aroma. cloudy brownish amber. a bit milder than i enjoy, but hoppy and bitter. kinda watery too, but still very enjoyable.
