Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Jun 3, 2005 Pours dark orange/ amber with decent tan head. Big pine hop aroma fades as it warms. Flavor is not as hoppy as aroma suggests. Mostly sweet malt/caramel with some citrus and pine in the finish. Long lingering hop aftertaste. Getting huge hop belches from this as I write. fatguys (65), Wisconsin, USA Jun 3, 2005 Wonderful floroal aroma. Nice copper color. Smallish head. A tasteful balance of bitter Cascade and a caramel sweetness. Seems a bit mild for an IPA, but I love it. I think it’s a tad better than Bell’s Two Hearted.
One of my new favorites from a quality brewer. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2005 Bottle acquired in trade with Ughsmash (thanks!). Poured a darker reddish/amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of pine, citrus, and some malts. Tastes of Caramel, pine, and some oranges and pineapples. Has a nice sweet to bitter balance. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 17, 2005 Updated: Aug 13, 2007Poured a reddish-amber color with very little head retention. Cascade hops are very evident in the aroma with grapefruit, lemon, and pine notes. Light woodiness and the aforementioned hoppy goodness noted in the taste. The taste, however, fell a little short (complexity and body) of what I expected. Aftertaste retained a little of the citrus hoppiness, but the taste was rather fleeting. Decent brew.
As "Super Hop Hearty" on cask at 2007 GTMW: Porued a super-chunky medium caramel with a loose ring of white head. Aroma picked up sweet oak-infused caramel with some odd off-notes that I couldn’t pick out.. some veggies, and came across as stickly. Toasted caramel at the flavor base with caramel and leafy notes surrounding.. herbal bitterness came through on the back-half.. OK, but I have to say I enjoyed the regular Hop Hearty more.. lower carbonation from the cask treatment with a high level of bitterness.. the balance was off, though, and this felt OK at best. 6 3 6 3 12 agl108 (503), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 29, 2005 Thanks to lamas (via StewardofGondor) for the bottle. 12 oz. bottle. Pours a red/amber with no head. A thin ring of lace remains. Nice floral aroma, citrusy too - the Cascade dry hopping is clearly evident. Great hoppy taste but remarkably smooth and not overly bitter for an IPA. This is good beer. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Apr 22, 2005 Thanks hezron for the fun trade bonus!
Pours medium-dark amber with a small layer of fine butter colored head. What there is hangs on fairly well. Orange peel citrus aromas with hints of woody, outside kind of smells. Very elegant. Clingy citrus bitterness with some grassiness, and something a bit off that reminds me of celery or radishes. This is wonderful smelling beer, but the taste falls a bit short of what the aroma promises. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Apr 12, 2005 Crystal clear and copper colored with a thin creamy head and an apparent low carbonation. Strong citrus and pine hop aroma with a little celery. Big in body with a sweet lingering finish. Hops dominate the flavor with some malt and caramel backing them up. Interesting hop profile that has some citrus, spice and earthiness. Holds its own, though I would prefer it to be drier. Enormo (25), Davenport, Iowa, USA Apr 1, 2005 Absolutely beautiful appearance of fiery orange with a foamy off-white head. Obvious use of dry hopping with this beer. Strong hop aroma with an underlying sweetness. This contributes to somewhat of a let down in the flavor as it doesn’t live up to the smell. A slight roasted sweetness up front with a very abrupt bitter finish. In the end, if this tasted as good as it smells I would have rated it higher
