MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA May 22, 2009 Bottle with thanks to coyotehunter. Body is orangy amber and supports a medium sudsy head. Aromas of orange and other citrus. Flavor is weak for am IPA, but not bad. Crisp hops are a bit underdeveloped and the whole thing kind of fizzles. Takes on more of a grapefruit finish as it warms. jezmez68 (332), Chesterton, Indiana, USA May 22, 2009 Yeah. Okay. A decent representation of the style, but nothing that is overall impressive for an IPA. Nice use of both classic English and American hops. Probably a good starter IPA for a lot of people. For me...I could have gone through life without it. GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA May 8, 2009 Bottle received via trade. That’s pretty much the only way I’ll ever land anything from New Glarus. As long as it keeps rolling in, I’m good. The beer is a pretty standard mid-west IPA, nicely balanced with a undefineable hop bitterness (floral, but kinda vegetative like an onion) with a sweet malt smell. The hops don’t have your bitter receptors in a stranglehold which is nice. Bitterness is in the medium range, and the soft malt backing make the drinkablility very high. Finish is crisp with a short lingering bitterness. A nice IPA. hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 7, 2009 Dark amber body with a nice head. Piney, earthy hop aroma with some caramel malts. Flavor is nice and earthy, almost dirty like. Palate is a little thin, but not too bad. Finishes all right. Decent beer. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 6, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Aroma of sweet, oily hops. Apricot, cat urine, yellow plum, and some dirt scents. Barley-wine-like. Interesting smell. Pours a clear, effervescent, dull copper with a moderate to large amount of nearly white, fluffy head. Pretty good lacing. Soft, piney, fresh, herbal hops taste. Not much malt in the flavor. Little aftertaste. Soft, oily, and lively in the palate. Light body. Not much to it. Meh. Not very "Hearty." noompa (130), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 2, 2009 12 oz. bottle (2008) in a snifter. Pours an amber brown/deep orange w/ lacey Emmental bone-white head. Spicy citrus hops and hop oils. Caramel, amla sourness and salt in flavor tapering off into a slightly musty flavor. Watery body, finishing fresh and crisp. Refreshing and solid, although I’ve had better IPAs. LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA May 1, 2009 Appearance: Pours an opaque amber with an offwhite, dense head.
Aroma: Resinous piny hops (my guess is Cascade).
Taste: Earthy, bitter hops. Some lemony goodness, light malt, and a firm, crisp hop finish.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, almost creamy, but not quite.
Overall: An awesome, refreshing IPA. Very balanced, yet bold. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 25, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of sebletitje. Pours a generally clear dark amber, bronze color with a one finger foamy white head that settles quickly. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of fresh flowers, citrus, pine, grapefruit, caramel, honey, some notes of toffee. Flavor is sweet and malty with a much diminished hop presence and stronger notes of caramel, honey, malt, spice, and some light floral hops notes. Generally light to medium body with a pleasing malty and lightly hoppy finish.
