3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAY 20, 2004 Rerate 5/20/2004: Pours a nice copper color with a puffy white head. Boldly hoppy aroma has a nice malty balance to it. Not over the top in any regard, just well balanced, sweet, hoppy, and a very nice IPA.
9/29/2002: Very representative of an IPA. Nice malt profile and good hoppiness. New Glarus has yet to disappoint me.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
absolutely zero head, deep golden/copper color. ok, iím rerating this one early on...clearly i tried it too cold. there is a bit of floral aroma and the hops and malts in this one are quite well-balanced. i would call this a poor manís Hop Devil...no offense.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a good IPA, bottled or not. It is pretty malty but the hops are strong. It is also pretty sweet and has a good after taste.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is the best IPA I have tasted out of Wisconsin. Iíve lived in the cheese state all my life and then moved to Washington state where the hops are the key to a distinctive beer. It is good to see some hop-heavy quality coming out of a state that is famous for macro-brewery piss beer. For a state that drinks so much beer it is about time we started producing some that tastes good. The word with the locals around New Glarus is that nobody in their "right mind" drinks New Glarus beer. However, anyone with functional taste buds would have to disagree. The cascade hop flavor reminds me of my new home on the coast. Just the right amount of bitter, strong but now overpowering...

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. Big very stable whipped-cream head, dark dark amber body. Wonderfully balanced nose, full of good caramel malts and fruity hoppiness, apricots and peaches. Flavor rather "dark" and roasty for an IPA, very malty but with enough hops to get your notice, especially at the end. Not quite great, but very very good; NG strikes again!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very sweet caramel malt flavor. Somewhat of a metallic hop finish that wasnít quite right, but still an enjoyable beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 6, 2003 12 oz bottle pours a clear copper color, decent frothy white head that sticks around for awhile. Strong piney-grapefruity aroma, nice and balanced caramel and citrus flavors with a great hop bite, medium body with a full round mouthfeel, finishes sharp with some dryness, a very good IPA.

Excellent IPA loaded with hops. I had this for the first time on a 100-degree day and it was truly refreshing.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 9, 2007 RERATE 7/8//07: I wonder if the recipe for this beer has changed because it seems maltier and more full-bodied than I remember it. There also seems to be more yeastiness. Iíd say this beer has been improved since I last sampled it, therefore my ratings are going up to reflect it.
This is my íusualí IPA, mainly because I live pretty close to the brewery. The fact that I really like this particular brew enters into my choice as well of course :) Itís not as strong tasting as some of the other IPAs Iíve had, but nonetheless, itís very yummy in its own right. Nothing quite like it on a hot, sweaty day...
