madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Apr 23, 2009 Bottle - Pours deep, clear amber with a massive creamy head. Aroma is a blast of citrusy floral hops, which come through nicely in the taste. The bitter hops really come through on the finish, which is a nice transition from the citrus. Sweet, caramel and toffee notes dance in the malty background. It’s a bit oily, but pleasantly so. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 30, 2009 Bottle from noncaloric(again!!) pours a nice golden/orange color with a white head. Aroma is soapy, citrus and pine. Flavor is full of resin, grapefruit and some nice malts. Hoppy yes, but not overly bitter. Great beer. EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA Mar 28, 2009 My scribbled note says it had a bready aroma, bitter hops with little else. I don’t remember much more, which for me says that it was pretty unremarkable in a category that I really like. zeke626 (301), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 28, 2009 Bottle, pours a burnt orange body with a yellowish cream head. Nice aroma of citrus grapefruit and floral hops along with caramel malts and a hint of pine. Flavor is somewhat muted compared to the aroma, as its balance is tipped more towards the malt end than I would expect in an IPA. I get flavors of lightly roasted caramel malts along with the light grapefruit and bitter flavor of the hops. Bitter finish of grapefruit and aspirin. Medium bodied and nicely carbonated, although somewhat watery near the finish. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Mar 21, 2009 Poured a slightly hazed amber with a medium sized off-white head. Hop forward floral and citrus aroma. Covers most of the malt. The flavor is well blended with malt and citrus hops. Bready malt. the bitterness is mild. Light to medium bodied. Sonicdescent (374), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 21, 2009 My first NG beer, thanks toncatcher! There’s a really beautiful copper color to this, tan head recedes into a crown. Smell is robust, I can smell it from afar..pine and citrus. Taste is surprisingly balanced and tasty, superior mouthfeel. Hops are there, but this isn’t a bomb. Really great IPA and one that doesn’t follow the run of the mill. Merrill (74), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 17, 2009 This bottle says I.P.A. around the neck. Lovely red-orange with an off-white head that disappears quickly. Aroma of Grand Marnier and light candy hops. Flavor starts with light bitter hops and a fruity background that is refreshing up front. There is something about all New Glarus beers - a bready quality that is almost a signature. This is true in this otherwise fine IPA and the beer loses in the finish. But this may be my favorite NG. Taverner (827), San Ramon, California, USA Feb 17, 2009 Damn good IPA! The hop aroma is old world, spicy and musty. I love that aspect that is retains this must, yet doesn’t affect the flavor any. Pours amber brown with white head. Flavor is sweet, but not cloyingly. Definite contender for a Midwest IPA.
