First sip really smacks you in the face, but is balanced quite well , and carries well throughout. Strykzone (1507), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Amber color with a big off white uneven head with good retention. Plenty of visible carbonation and suspended yeast. Aroma gives nice floral and citrus notes and is full of hop. Feels is resiny and smooth. Flavor is the classic IPA with grapefruit, pine, and caramel. But it is very well done. Nothing over done, nothing over the top. Just well crafted beer. aracauna (2427), Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 25, 2004 Medium amber with a nice yellowish head that stuck around for a bit. Nice hoppy aroma. Toffee was the biggest malt character of both the aroma and the flavor. The hops stuck more to the bitter than to the fruity in the flavor, but it was still a nice IPA. Pleasant to drink. iwantalambic (1390), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2004 12 oz bottle: Clear red bronze. Thick, creamy light tan head that diminishes into small bubbles around the edges. Sweet caramel sugar and hop aromatics. . . a bit of sugary dough as well. Carbonation is a bit flat. Piney sourness across the tongue that turns slightly dry. . . hints of vanilla, caramel, and oak all wrapped up in the tangy bitterness. Pretty nice. hopscotch (5558), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 1, 2004 Sparkling clear, bright, burnt orange ale. Creamy, beige head. Roasted aroma. Notes of caramel, dried plum, milk chocolate and coconut. The flavor is very well-hopped, but not really for an IPA. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, bitter, dry finish. drywallman (230), Lake in the Hills, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2008 This one poured light orange with a sustained head. The caramel malt does come through and is balanced with the resinous hop flavor and aroma. A good solid thirst quencher in the IPA mold. MartinT (5080), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Earthy hops are cohesively integrated to the lascivious caramel maltiness of this hearty broth of an IPA. This is not your typically bold American hop blast though, which can definitely be inferred from the beer’s name, but it remains a testament to the brewer’s prowess.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Creamy foam sticks to the misty reddish orange.
-The soft carbonation perfectly showcases the generous maltiness.
-A light orangey fruitiness is found underneath.
-The smooth leafy hop bitterness hits the spot, yet might not be enough to satisfy those looking for a killer finish.
-Herbal hints in the nose sometimes recall freshly-picked basil leaves, or even mint.
Bottle; thx Mike!
