Aroma is bubblegum, cinamon and some toasted bread. The taste is slight banana with a malty and bready background. Also has very light notes of apple peel. Fairly thin mouthfeel. A nice and refreshing brew that makes me continue to appreciate the skills of the New Glarus crew. tried again. I agree with the previous notes, but the finish is more apple core this time. I found it to be a rather smooth drinking beer predominantly malt flavor, subtle undertones of citrus, with little hops that I could detect.... overall a pretty descent beer, possibly another case of too high of expectations of the new glarus brew. co.
Rerate side by side with schell schmaltz alt
This beer is significantly older than the schell’s (6 months maybe) so that may hinder the rating but we’ll see what happens. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown, tastes a tad stale, but I don’t think the age is a majpr set back nice overall beer, but it really doesn’t have the cohones to stand up to the bigger thicker schells "altbier" Suttree (2752), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 26, 2004 Murky brown, fizzy tan head. Mildly fruity, slightly burnt aroma. Herbal and fresh, with slight citric bite. Tasty, savory brew. Thanks to Marinaro500 for this trade! howie (549), DeForest, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 20, 2004 Dark brown, dissipating head. Aromas of molasses, cookie, coffee, a little dark fruit. Flavors are subtle... coffee roastiness, toast, light molasses and brown sugar sweetness. An easy session brew, I’m surprised it’s not more popular with the Spotted Cow crowd. Color probably scares them off. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Clear, swampy brown color, smallish head, deteriorating to a faint ring. Aroma: cocoa is faintly here, but tainted with cola and minerals.
Soft entry on the palate, very mild, very mellow...a shy one, she is, with some of the trappings of a brown ale, but lacking many of the flavors. It tastes "brown", but has little body, no hops, only a trace of malt, some treacly cocoa occurs, but not enough. Seems like they’re shooting for the Newcastle segment with this one.
Way too wimpy for me, but, then, it’ll find favor with some, I’m sure. And theycan have it.

A nice fruity fermentation character lets you know this is ale. Hops remain low and let the sweetness of the malt dominate. Very drinkable PattyBoy (302), North Liberty, Iowa, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 13, 2004 Pours hazy dark brown with an off-white head that has some staying power. Taste is sweet, slightly plummy. There are hints of roasted malts, but not very much. Very low bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin. Not great, but you could do worse. slang (410), Columbia, South Carolina, USA

Initially this beer is very dark, thou it lets light through. Slightly brown w/ minimal haze covered with average head of large bubbles. My nose is stopped up : / Mouthfeel is very oily and smooth, still sexy. It’s very easy and the main deal with palate is texture. Very enjoyable! Thanks, mom.
