Naturally bold, dark and charming this ale is the ultimate drinkable brew. Expect this bier to pour an unfiltered, silken black smoothness that finishes refreshingly clean.

I drank it from the bottle, so I didnít get into looking at it. It really doesnít have to be pretty for me to enjoy it, though eye appeal is a plus. It smells kind of like coffee, and tastes just fine. Kind of watery, but in a refreshing way. Fairly flavorful. It seemed to have a plain honest flavor like a homebrew coming from someone who knew pretty well what they were doing. Because of this, I felt like the name "Native" fit the brew, but you never know, it may because I saw the name "Native" that this thought of it being like a homebrew came into my mind in the first place. Marketing, you know. For whatever reason, seems like an enjoyable quality brew to me, which I would have no problem drinking another 6 pack of sometime soon.

The beer pours dark and cloudy. decent sized head. has an aroma of fruit, apples, cranberries and Wisc. cheese. It finishes off dry with a little bit of nuttiness.

Beer pours a deep dark brown, about a half of an inch head, with solid lacing. Smell, hints of chocolate and coffee. Taste has a decent coffee presence with a little chocolate as well as water. Decent carbonation wise, but a little too watery. Good drinkability, probably wouldnít have more than a couple however.

Bottle. Lighter brown ale with small head, nutty aroma with slight malts. Taste is malty and finishes fairly sweet and dry. Thin on the palate.

Traditional style bier. Very dark in color, with a smoky aroma but surprisingly light taste, with a citrus note. I only wish the big breweries would make a dunkel/amber that tasted like this so people wouldnít think "itís a dark beer, it must be heavy." From a bottle, and from the tap.

12oz bottle. Poured a deep mahogany color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of toasted malts, caramel, and maybe some very light citrus. Tastes of caramel and kinda nutty. Thin body. Nothing really stood out either good or bad.

detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 21, 2007
Pours a murky brown color, inititally (but briefly) topped by half an inch of loosely packed white foam. No head retention, no lacing. Mildly sweet aroma, nothing special. It has flavor, but subdued. Almost watered down. You ever had Koolaid that was made with too much water? All the elements of the flavor were there, but in bad proportion. Thatís what this beer was like. The maltiness was watered down chocolate and grain. There was a fruity tang that was watered down and a bit musty. There was generic hop presence that was a walk on the mild side. Light body, llight carbonation.

dhlesq (233) - Thousand Oaks, California, USA - NOV 20, 2006
Aroma of grain over light noble hops, with some caramel or toffee notes. Appears a dark ruddy mahogany color with no effervescence or head to speak of. Flavor is bland, but with some vienna-style qualities. palate is crisp and light, though watery. Overall, a very poor offering from an otherwise stellar producer.

Donít know if Iíd call this an Amber. Dark malts employed and a nutty slightly smokey character to it. Palate a bit thin for what I like, but considering the style appropriate. A decent session beer, but nothing extrodinary.

mamabeer (39) - Urbana, Illinois, USA - AUG 4, 2006
bottle - Pours a pale brown with only a ring of foam around the edge of the glass. Very little aroma, but what there was was sweet and nutty. Palate is thin and goes down without giving letting you get a real taste. The sweet yeasty flavor is there more as an aftertaste. All in all not a bad beer, but Iím not sure Iíd buy it again. New Glarus makes better than this.
