3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle shared by csbosox. Pour is mostly clear mahogany golden with a fizzy white head that falls pretty quick. Aroma is similar to the gueze, big oak vanilla, Brett and only mildly cherry. Taste is the vanilla oak up front, followed close behind by cherry fruit (skin, tart). The Bourbon is present, though in the back with a warm booziness. There is a herbal yeastiness that is reminiscent of the Belgian Red. Palate is medium, coats the mouth pleasantly, spritzy carbonation nice clean fruit finish. Thanks for sharing this one Chris.

500ml. Rich fruitiness, vanilla, a touch of bourbon, a fair amount of oak in the nose. Taste is prominant cherries, some lactic tartness, vanilla and some lingering light to moderate sourness. Lots of cherries in the finish.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured a clear red amber with a light brown head that dissipated quickly. Aroma had a nice sour cherry note with a hint of bourbon. Flavor was similar except the sour cherries don’t really mesh as well with bourbon note and ends up a bit awkward in my opinion.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep rusty brown pour with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma has lots of strong bourbon, lush tart cheries, caramel, vanilla, and apple cider vinegar. The flavor is sweet and tart cherries upfront with a sweet malty middle and finishing with a kick of bourbon, vanilla, oak, lactic acid and a tiny bit of brett funk. Medium body with lots of effervescent carbonation.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
New glarus r/d barrel aged kriek. 500ml bought at the hilltop location.. Pours a medium caramel brown with
reddish hues and a thin soapy white head... Aroma of spice, bourbon,
and maraschino cherries with nutmeg and allspice. somewhat akin to a manhattan cocktail, no?.. Flavors are spicy
with apple and cherry notes as well as addition hints of bourbon. Some
greenness to it to boot. Mostly sweet with a hint of cherry tartness.
Nice fluffy thin to medium body. Nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours to a burnt sienna colored body with a thin head. Aromas of sour cherries, oak, vanilla, and biscuit. The flavor was sour cherries and vanilla with a balsamic vinegar and oak. This was quite balanced, but the bourbon aging could have been skipped. Really tart palate. Surprisingly well done for the first Kriek I’ve had from New Glarus.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle from the brewery (New Glarus, WI). Decided to pop one and go for it. Pours a glowing fiery reddish copper, light touch of haze, and a frothy offwhite head that dies to an small film, laces ok. Fiery cherry sunset hue, small loose head. Aromas are decent kick of Bourbon, wet oak and vanilla tannins push on, sweet and tart cherries, a light booziness and Bourbon spirit flavor. Simple, yet appealing. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, easy and lively on the palate, decent bubbly carbonation, Bourbon spirit and vanilla, wet oak and sweet and tart cherries. Light maltiness of biscuits and bread comes through more, tart cherries grow with a hint of vinegar. Some lactic acid and light touch vinegar grows, sour and sweet cherries move in. Bourbon barrek is a nice feel, done for a good time length. Flavors are solid as the beer gives in to more tart cherries and vinegar with a good tartness taking hold. The barrel starts to take on more barrel in the finish, smoothed out vanilla and oak. A nice gentler sour with firm fruit notes and some really nice barrel notes combining with lactic acidity and juicy tart cherries and a touch of biscuity malt beneath. Very nice beer here, not as complex as I had anticipated.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a rusty red color thin off-white head. Aroma is of bourbon, light oak and cherries. Taste is light oak up front, followed by some sour cherries, vanilla, burnt brown sugar and a nice bourbon finish. Carbonation is moderate and everything is well balanced. It’s essentially a bourbon aged Belgian Red which is definitely a good thing.
