COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bold floral bouquet sweeps forward, encouraged by the Maris Otter Malt. Ale and Brettanomyces promote complex Brett characters. Dry finish. Alive and still fermenting, this bottle will continue to build carbonation. Pour with care. Brewed 3-23-09. Bottled 6-18-09.

New Batch released in 2011, New Glarus is also considering putting it in six packs.

Bottle… Hazy yellow ale with a mid-sized, wispy, white head. Smells similar to a one-year-old Orval - dry cobwebs and light funk. Light to medium-bodied and bone-dry with fizzy carbonation. Leans a touch on the sweet side of balance, pretty much like Orval at certain early stages in its potentially lengthy shelf life. Also, a touch peppery. Semi-sweet, grainy, dry finish. Bottle courtesy of motortoddhead!

Bottle shared at Where the Wild Beers Are NYC 2009: Hazy golden with a wispy off white head. The aroma has that nice hoppy and bretty character with notes of leather, earthy hay like hop notes. Fluffy body with a nutty flavor. Earthy and rustic with some of that mild Brux brett funk (leathery). A nice attempt to an Orval-like beer.

Cloudy golden with a medium off white head. Aroma had brettmalt and lemons. Flavour was fairly dry with brett, lemons, barnyard and malty notes. Finished dry.

On draught during the Great Taste of Midwest in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a hazy golden orange colored brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a cream top. Aroma of citrus and grapefruit zest, some golden grain malt, a touch of horse blanket, and lemon. Taste is medium bodied, very light in carbonation with flavors of golden grain malt, citrus, a hint of white pepper and some earthy spice. Brett is very faint. Finish is semi-dry with a floral hop aftertaste that slowly disappears.

Courtesy hopscotch. Pours a hazy golden color topped by a nice foamy, white head that settles to a thin film and leaves spots of lacing behind. The aroma is of citrus fruits, lemon zest, floral hops, and some herbal spices. There is a hint of the brett and its dryness in the aroma. The flavor follows with a good dose of citrus fruits, lemons, spices, and some funk. There is some nice bitterness on the back end from the floral hops. Medium bodied with ample carbonation with a spicy, dry finish from the brett. This is really good right now, but I can see it getting even better. I definitely want to try this again with some age on it.

Bottle from Iowaherkeye. Pours hazy gold-orange with fluffy white head. Aroma is grassy, floral hops, citrus/lemon, and herbal notes. Flavors are pretty similar with just a little of the funky brett character mixed in. Finishes with a crisp hop bitterness. A very interesting beer that I really enjoy. Nice job NG.

50cl bottle, thanks to CaptainCougar for hooking it up. Gold color with a big fluffy white head. The aroma pops out with a very brett-in-primary signature fruitiness, with lots of floral brightness as well. Herbal and somewhat phenolic tasting with just a touch of sweetness, some funky dustiness and light bitterness. There is also a juicy, almost pineapple fruitiness that enhances the illusion of a sweeter beer before the dryness of the finish hits you. Pretty light on the tongue with plenty of carbonation. This is pretty nice right now, with a great, bright mix of fruity, spicy, and herbal elements, but I can see it getting great with more time in the bottle.

Plan to add to this rating as I try my bottles over time...that being said...initial rating on 8/23/09: Pours a orange-gold color with a miniscule head. Aroma is nicely done...huge floral bouquet and some citrus fruits...good dose of orange emerges, and there’s a lot of herb/spice notes in the background as well...complex yet smooth. Flavor is complex and has a youthful feel to it...Funky brett notes are present throughout, and it does change from sip to sip as it warms slightly. Catching some fruit notes up front that change to leather/blanket with a good dose of spice (pepper). Finishes very dry and lingers, but in a good way. Palate is smooth with a lot of carbonation. I know I keep hearing Orval, and maybe I need to try a couple more Orvals, but this one didn’t compare that strongly IMO. Each is a good beer in its own right!
