3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 badgerben (4253) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - MAR 9, 2006
Black color with no head. Sweet oat aroma with some lactose sourness. The sweetness of the oats stands out in the taste. Strong yet sweet malt base. Sourness hides on the finish and gives the beer a nice change of pace from the regular sweet stout.

Pours a dark brown with dark tan head that quickly diminishes. Aroma of light hops, light chocolate and light sweet malts. Lighter body for a stout - with a flavor that is similar to aroma, but much more pronounced. A good simple stout.

A good oatmeal stout. It is well balanced with a smooth mouthfeel. The balance will be enhanced by allowing the beer to warm up a little bit.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MIBRomeo (2345) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 28, 2006
dark brown color thick creamy chocolate looking head w/ nice lacing. Smells lightly hopped light grass light chocolates semi sweet, very basic. Light creamy palate good coating some light sticky taste of light grass & lemon rind behind a bitter coccoa powder. A basic stout, pretty good but a bit to light and a bit average.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gurst (338) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - FEB 28, 2006
Huge roasted coffee taste, backed up by a little burnt chocolate and earth. There might be some more distinct fruit or sweet flavors, but they get muddled together and end up coming off as tangy dirt. You could call it smooth, but maybe boring would be a better term. Not that boring is always bad, but it just seems like a normal stout.

bottle-pitch black with a sudsy root beer like surface with different tones of tan/brown. hardwood, roast, chocolate (dark), char and dark fruits on the nose. sweet chocolate flavors mostly with some lilght roast, anise, dark fruits (plums) and a little woodsy. palate is a little lite, but then again, its an oatmeal stout. decent mouthfeal-slick and sharp. pretty simple stout that i will re-visit.

I had this on tap but didn’t rate it. The bottle seems to be better. I get tons of roasted coffee and smokey malts in this beer, fresh oatmeal. The beer pours to a black body with a nice creamy tan head. The flavor is a very huge oatmeal, coffee, bitter chocolate. The palate is full bodied, creamy, sweet, lingering dry-roastyness. This is a great stout.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Brigadier (2230) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - FEB 22, 2006
12 oz bottle
Poured a wonderful deep black. Picked up wheat, grains, malt and coffee in the nose along with some subtle chocolate tones. On first pass, I picked up oats, grains and several other earthy tastes. Later sips provided subtle coffee and vanilla flavoring. Extremely dry and very smooth - I could drink this one all night.

Wow a powerful looking stout and with an pleasant aroma! There is a tannish looking head and the pour seems like this night has some body. Taste is full of chocolate and malt character. Albiet a little thinner than what I was expecting. Definately serve warmer. A nice stout... I just wish that Dan would not pasteurize his beers... But shelf life is improved...but when you have beer this good, does one really expect it to stay on the shelves? GOT STOUT?
