Commercial Description:
This authentic amber Irish ale is slow brewed with a blend of three malted barleys and finished with four varieties of hops. Then we dry-hopped in the lager tank to add a spicy note to warm your winter evenings. Expect this beer to be a beautiful copper-red, with a fruity ale body and a spiced hop finish.

Just got this from the brewery the day after Christmas. Pours a big head. Color is a deep dark amber brown. The head falls after a few minutes and leaves an incredible lacing. Taste is hoppy, reminds me of an English IPA. Good strong matly backbone with some light hops. Good solid beer.

Poured a clear amber color with a small beige head. Sweet and thick malt with a light tartness. Malty flavor with a light citrus and tartness.. Strong caramel. Medium bodied.

12 oz bottle from my parent’s basement refrigerator. Clear ruby color with bubbly off white head. Aroma is subtle, but the hops and malt mingle to create a marriage of spruce and chocolate. Full bodied with a spicy and chocolatey flavor. A bit roasty as well. Not a bad beer.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with JK, thanks John!) Snowshoe is a nearly full-bodied beer that I really like in many ways, but in other ways, not so much. I like that the nose is caramely and lightly toasty, but I don’t like the perfumy and fruity aroma. The flavor is sweet, caramely, malty and fruity, but the apple and perfumy flavor is really turning me off. Bitterness is moderate and kind of hangs on the palate, but combined with the perfumy nature results in an unpleasant finish and aftertaste. The mouthfeel is substantial and oily, fully coating all corners of the mouth. Dark amber body is somewhat hazy and topped by a tan head that doesn’t show particularly good retention, fully dissipating within ten minutes. Lacing is out of the question. So in the end, while I this some aspects of this beer are solid, overall, I’m just not that impressed and have no desire to drink this again.

2005 bottle from Robertsreality. Shared with Olivier_MTL after the American Beer Fest on 6/18/2005. Beautiful copper-auburn with light tan hints. Plentiful head is beige and well-retained giving light lacing. Beer is seemingly filtered, but the carbonation is not sharp nor is it shockingly clear. Aroma is toffee, sweet butter cream. Light foresty, earthy hops smell. Not bitter, just green and fresh. The hops note lingers on throughout the aroma and flavor, which is creamy, sweet malt, rich and lightly earthy. Mouthfeel is excellent, perfectly coating with low carbonation. Not watery or thin. Sweet, light vanilla bean notes, very well extracted overall. Foresty, flavorful hops, not really sure how else to describe them, they just taste fresh and green, with a light herbal-mint-wintergreen hint.
