Commercial Description:
Who is qualified to judge one's contribution? Is it the pure Wisconsin barley malt or shall credit be given to traditional German and English hops? Maybe it is the Belgian Monastic yeast or the Brewer's tender care? Combined, this is a sophisticated Abbey style ale. Both elegant and drinkable this ale is cleanly aromatic with spicy notes of clove and ginger. Crisp and fragrant up front while gracefully sliding into warm malt notes at the finish. Fermented natually in this bottle, the beer in your hand is a living testament to the value of many working together to create something bigger than the individual parts. Moving a mountain begins with a single stone.

Another good beer from NG! Pour is blond, thin white head. Fruity aroma. Lots of citrus and bananas. Refreshing dry finish.

12 oz. bottle purchase in early July 2007 and consumed in mid-February 2008. Floral, classic low-alcohol Belgian golden ale aroma. Powdered sugar, bubblegum, watermelon sucking candy, and cotton candy scents. Clean, yeasty smell. Light and very pleasant aroma overall. Pours a sparkling, mostly translucent, pale gold. Small amount of yeast cloud lines that produce a creamy appearance where they are present. Large amount of short-lasting, uneven, fluffy, frothy, nearly white head made up of large bubbles. Produces some lacing. The flavor is sweet and resembles the aroma but is less powerful. A touch of lemon peel zest. Slightly bitter, English-style hops presence. The taste is merely “nice.” Light to medium body. Light dry aftertaste. Middle of the road palate effects across the board. The palate is neither remarkable nor memorable in any way. New Glarus Stone Soup has a good aroma, but it is otherwise forgettable though inoffensive. It seems to have survived the 7+ months of cellaring well despite its relatively low alcohol content. It tastes as I remember other bottles tasting months ago, perhaps even a bit better. It is accessible and sessionable, giving it mainstream potential. I’d certainly drink it over a Spotted Cow any day.

Aroma has a hint of banana esters, some clove and other in determinant spices and a tiny touch of minerals. Pours a cloudy, golden-yellow with a tall white head that thins. Interesting flavors, subtle Belgian yeast characterized by bubblegum and spices followed by a bit of bread-like malt mid-palate and some sweet, honey and corn flavors near the finish. I even get a bit of bitterness in the finish. Light in body with a fairly watery texture and a crisp, dry finish.
