September 2, 2013 - bottle shared by Brandon. Dirty dishwater pour with some head and spotty lacing. Aroma was big time strawberry. Taste was like a strawberry rhubarb pie.

Thanks to Michael for this one. Pours a brilliant Bud Lite Lime Straw-ber-ita color. Aroma is heavy stewed strawberries, tending toward sweet preserves, with a hint of earthiness. Flavor is identical to those little individually wrapped strawberry candies, the ones where the wrapper is red and green. Thatís pretty cool.

Since this was available as a draft line I decided to give it a shot before delving into some of the local offerings. I am glad I did because both in the bottle and keg this is a delicious fruit beer. Nothing short of rhubarb pie in a glass it is a fine addition to the New Glarus family.
Aroma / Appearance - A reddish base looks like someone whipped up a bloody mary then tossed on a rich head. Strawberry rhubarb pie tickles the senses along with a very subtle sourness. This is almost like candy in a glass but unlike sweetened lambics works because it has no pretensions of being anything but.
Flavor / Palate - The strawberries and rhubarbs also are strong in each sip. A mild sour tang is more salty than vinegar. Far too easy to drink in just a couple of gulps this beer is fantastic from the time it gets to you to the last drop. If passing through Wisconsin pick up a couple.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2013 Poured hazy red pink with a little cream head. Light strawberry aroma. Tastes like a creamy strawbeery tart yogurt. Quite smooth. Would be surprised to know it had any alcohol in it.

Woah. This was great. Aroma is pure strawberry jam. Go Smuck yourself. Pours a nice white head over top of a cloudy reddish/brown body. It looks like there is a ton of fruit in there. Taste, again, is just straight up strawberry jam. Not overly sweet but on the sweet side. Refreshing, tasty, satisfying on many levels. Too good.

A steady pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces a two finger thick, light tan colored head that seems to be quite creamy textured; as I drink the beer it leaves quite a bit of layered lacing on the sides of my glass. The beer is a dark, plum-red color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright, gold-tinged, red hue when held up to the light. The nose smells brightly of strawberries, like a concentrate, coulis of strawberries. There is perhaps an earthiness here that suggests at the malt from the base beer here, and there is also a touch of tartness to the aroma.
As expected the beer is sweet, though not quite as cloying as I was dreading. The strawberry flavors play the dominant role in the flavor to, though it is not quite as dominant as it is in the nose. There is prickly carbonation to the beer, which helps to offset the richness of the body; this definitely sits on the palate quite a bit, it is quite chewy textured, but it is still drinkable enough. Trying to reach for a sense of the base beer here, it is quite hard though, perhaps a touch of almost nutty, malt character, though you really have to dig for this. The beer has a soft tartness to it that melds with the strawberry character; I donít really get a sense of the rhubarb, but that is always the case with this kind of combination.
In the same vein as the other Fruit beers from New Glarus, sweet, fruity, without much beer character to it. If that is what you are looking for these can definitely hit the spot, and can certainly be enjoyable as such.

Bottle pours a slightly hazy reddish orange with a large pinkish khaki head. Aroma of strawberry yogurt. Taste similar to aroma sweet strawberry yogurt with some tart rhubarb, strawberry dominating. This pretty good, but not nearly as much as other New Glarus fruit beers.

750mL pouring at Hermosillo Club. Clear orange like pour with medium white foam. Nose is rich strawberry dessert with crust, whipped cream, shortcake. Taste is sweet with shortcake, some lactic acid bite, and some of that butteriness that is present in their other fruit beers that creates an oily thickness. Great palate even if a bit slick. Comes across more dessert like.

Bomber from Brook Falls Discount shared with Eric & Randy & Laura. (Randy didnít like, Laura loved) Pours quite reddish with some pink and little head. Aroma has fresh strawberries and fruit jam and faint oak. Taste is sweet strawberries, just slightly tart and a bit gummy, with a bit of earthiness. Too sweet to drink much of. Not NGís best fruit beer.

Draft at The Old Fashioned. Pours murky red-brown, with minimal head. Sweet strawberry aroma and ... is that rhubarb? Smells like what it claims to be, I guess. Nice sweet, tart strawberry on the tongue with rhubarb coming through beautifully in the lingering aftertaste. Like drinking a strawberry-rhubarb pie beer. Light body, average carbonation. Very drinkable -- the only thing keeping me from drinking this all night long is its sweetness (would become a bit much after 2-3 pints) and my ridiculous drive to rate more beers. Iím a fool. This beer is great.
