Apple Ale sings with the fresh crisp taste of Wisconsin Apples. Our brewmaster begins with a brown ale base employing Wisconsin farmed wheat and a blend of Cortland, MacIntosh and Jonathan apples. Our apple growing friends squeeze them especially for this brew. Expect this ale to pour a beautiful copper color. The fresh bouquet of Apple will rise to meet you even before the glass touches your lips.

Pours a hazy dark golden color with a bright white head. Smells like apple cider with spices. Flavor is like a spiked apple cider with carbonation. More sweet than sour which surprised me. Not sure if I would consider this a beer.

Nice! The aroma is full of fresh, crisp apples, with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla. Perfect apple flavor. FUll-bodied and rich, like a good cider will be. Much less like a beer and more like a cider, really. The ale qualities include a delicate maltiness and a pleasant warm finish. Apples linger on the palate long after the sip.

New Glarus sure knows how to make fruit beers - pour looks just like fresh apple cider - aroma if full of natural apple smells, cores, peels and all, and a hint of cinnimon - smooth mouthfeel - mild, but very sweet and natural apple flavor - quite nice.

Delicious fresh apples liquified with alcohol. Thick coppery cider beverage with creamy texture and lots of fresh apple potancy. A little sweet and hints of cinnamon too. Manages to avoid being sickly syrupy while coating your mouth with malty sweetness. Very tasty.

faintly cloudy amber color. short off-white creamy head that goes quickly. smells like McIntosh apples, cinnamon, & yeast. very lively carbonation, mouthfeel goes creamy. flavor is like spiced apples, the kind they have at diners. a little pure cane sugar with sweet malt too. light tangy finish. thanks BBB63!

Bottle. Poured a coppery gold color...minimal head. Green apples are all over the nose with this one. Hitís you like the Raspberry Tart does. Strong aroma. Flavor is very much like apple cider, but maybe a tad lighter...more sweet than tart. Some malts I suppose, but this is still all apple. Very refreshing in a way. Couldnít drink a ton of it, but itís tasty and different.

Thanks to kmpitz2 for bringing one of these for tasting. This one pours an amber color with a very small head that dissipates quickly and doesnít leave much lacing on the glass. Awesome aroma. Apples and more apples. Not tart or sour, but just a nice apple smell. Not sure how they did that and avoided the sourness. The flavor is excellent. Lots of non-sour apple flavor with some caramel. Wish I knew how they did this beer because I would brew it as my house beer. Loved it.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2006 2005 bottle from Robertsreality, who hooked me up! Pours a thick looking orange-marmalade and light amber tinted color, with a rapidly dissipating, bubbly yellow head. Plenty of bubbles line the sides of the glass (in the liquid). Leaves a thick film as I drink (half way between lacing and cider legs). I canít decide if I liked the aroma or the flavor better, but man were they incredible. Fresh cinnamon, wonderful, fresh ripe, juicy sweet red apple skins and pulp. Light tart notes. Fresh apple crisp baking in the oven, all the way! Flavor keeps up the cinnamon/nutmeg and huge apple flavor, though it dosent kill you with sweetness. Wheat notes help add dry balance, lightly sour and tart, moderate to low acidity and a very low carbonation for all of the bubbles in this. More mushy apples, nice and sugary but it just never gets cloying or syrupy, probably thanks to the spicy/cinnamon flavor. It almost tastes like smoke or roast for a fleeting moment. Awesome stuff. I donít like the New Glarus Raspberry or Red, go figure.

Poured a clear reddish-brown color with a quickly diminishing head. Looked and tasted much like apple cider, and the carbonation was even similar. This hint that this is still beer is the light-to-medium malt backbone. I am not a huge fan of fruit beers, but this was a very good example of the style.

04.30.05 Thanks to Facto for this 12oz bottle. Thereís something about adding apples to anything that gives it that characteristic brownish-rust color, and this one is no exception. Smaller head fades quickly. Aroma is all apples and maybe some hints of honey or maybe apples caramelized and mascerated with sugar. Whatever, it smells sweet and tastes even sweeter. Huge apple goodness with plenty of tart apple cider and even a ciderish oxidation, kind of metallic like the brown spots on a bruised fruit. Itís a bit hard for me to find the beer in this stuff, as itís mostly fruit, but itís so lip smacking fantastic. lighter hints of butter and white sugar, as with an apple pastry. Why is it so hard for other brewers to make a good fruit beer while New Glarus has the midas touch with the stuff? Thanks a million for this one, Matt!
