COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Apple Ale sings with the fresh crisp taste of Wisconsin Apples. Our brewmaster begins with a brown ale base employing Wisconsin farmed wheat and a blend of Cortland, MacIntosh and Jonathan apples. Our apple growing friends squeeze them especially for this brew. Expect this ale to pour a beautiful copper color. The fresh bouquet of Apple will rise to meet you even before the glass touches your lips.

A nice aroma gives this beer a very solid start, but it goes down hill from there... Color is a beautiful copper shade but I had absolutely no luck getting head from this beer...... the flavor is very apply and sweet. Right away it is kind of pleasent, but it quickly grates on my palate almost to the point of sickening. Another syrupy fruity overrated (in my opinion) beer from New Glarus...

Pours lightly hazy orange/apple juice. Nose of much tinned pie filling, apple, cellar and spiced cider. Not much acidity. Too sweet. Some cinnamon and nutmeg, brown sugar and traces of yeast funk. A little disappointing.

In short: An apple pie in a bottle. Light and extra clean. It is what it is, a little oddity fun in small quantities.
How: Bottles, 2008 unplugged release. Bottles received from MatSciGuy, thanks a lot Levi. Consumed fresh and shared at tasting session with Montreal crew.
The look: Clear golden body with almost no head
In long: Nose of apple pie with cinnamon. Taste is really apple pie with cinnamon, crisp crust and all. An overall sensation of crumble. Medium carbonation, very light body. This is a very very clean beer, a bit too sparkling clean for my liking. This beer has very little body and the mouthfeel is rather boring. I understand it’s a 3.8% beer but New Glarus have proven they can make nourishing full body fruit beer with a similar gravity. Also while this original taste is kind of fun the first few sips it quickly gets tiresome. On one hand I admire the originality of this offering but on the other hand this is not something I could drink regularly or in large quantities. So I have mix feeling about it like a cheap fat Texan standing in front of a free all-you-can eat fruits and vegetables buffet.

Bottle. Poured a pink-tinged golden color with a short-lived, thin off-white head that diminished to a light ring. Aroma of red apples, cherry pie filling, some sugary sweetness, and a faint wheatiness. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some tart hints of apple that finishes with a cidery sweetness. Low carbonation, sweet on the palate. Overall, too one dimensional for my tastes. It seemed more like a sweet cider. I’ll stick with the Berliner weiss.

Bottle. Body-looks like apple juice with a thin ring of bubbles. Nose-cinnamon, apple juice, hard apple candy. Smells like an apple scented room deodorizer. Taste-cardboard, thin, straw, “old” tasting, surprisingly unsweet. Nice apple juice aftertaste. Really, this just tastes exactly like apple juice. It’s good and tasty, but so is apple juice. Loses points for lacking any real depth.

Bottle, pours a bubbly, clear gold body with white head. Aroma of fresh picked apples and apple juice/cider. Flavor is similar, although almost candy-like, reminiscent of Jolly Rancher sour apple candy. Slightly tart near the finish. A little sticky and syrupy on the palate. This is okay, but nothing remarkable.

355ml bottle @ ZZT III, courtesy of Martinus. Clear orange-golden color, small white head that disappears quickly. Smells fruity, a lot of apple indeed. Taste apple, sweetness, cinnamon and some hints of wood. Lightly sticky texture, low body, low carbo.

Medium-dark golden, bright. Light watery-apple aroma. Thickish in the mouth (at least compared to cider) Gently spicy apple flavor shows only the merest hints of appley tartness. Plenty sweet in the finish, becomes extremely sweet as it warms, even cloying. Some musty apple character comes forward as well. I’m not impressed.
