This is Dan’s Gold Medal winning "Unplugged Cherry Stout." This ale is aged in Oak barrels to promote the spontaneous fermentation. Eight Wisconsin malted barleys combined with Wisconsin Montmorency Cherries make for a complex and sublime taste experience that you may never find again.

12 oz bottle @Tampa Wkly Gathering @BT-pours a dissipating tan head and deep red/mahogany color. Aroma is spicy cherry, some medium malt. Taste is spicy cherry pie, secondary medium malt, wood. Doesn’t seem to get the stout over the cherry.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2012 12 ounce bottle courtesy of MrPickles. Thanks! Opened 6/7/10. Pours a orange-brown color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of candied cherries, a milky note and some brown malts. The taste is dominated by cherries, both fresh and candied, with a lightly roasty note and some nutty notes. Medium bodied and smooth. Cherry stouts are a style that do not agree with me at all, and this like all the others has a medicinal quality. That said, this is very good and if I liked the combination of roasted malts and cherries, I would love this one. 7/3/8/4/14

Had a bottle at CaptainCougar’s, shared by Captain Cougar. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of tart cherries, molasses, roasted malts and honey. The taste is tart cherries, faint roasted malts, honey. Medium bodied. Very, very nice. 9/3/8/4/18

Bottled. Dark amber coloured. Unclear. Light brown head. Distinct cherry aroma. Spices and fruits as well. Flaovur is spiced full of cherries and has light alcohol notes Has a light sour touch. Medium bodied. Ends on a sweet and spiced note. I like this brewery.

black, fine tan head, streaks of drippy lace, rich sweet cherry aroma with lots of rich chocolate, creamy body, rich chocolate and cherry flavor, nice sweetness is balanced by a light cherry tartness, the tart cherry flavor grows as it warms with the rich chocolate providing a great background,

12 oz. bottle, bonus’d by ekoerper (thanks Ed), pours a dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma screams truckloads of cherries - nothing artificial about them - smells like pure, fresh cherries, along with a touch of the oak barrels, though not very prominent. There isn’t really any notice that this is a stout. Flavour brings out potent cherries upfront, atop a more recognizable (than the nose) stout background. There is a thick malt backing that gives the cherries a big body to sit on top of, making it even more complex. Oak barrels round this off beautifully, but intensifying the complexity. This is truly superb. Cherry (or any fruit) stouts have never succeeded to impress me... until now. Most excellent stuff.

Bottle from guyinchicago. What a unique beer. Pours a reddish brown color with a very small head. Cherry candy on the nose with light hints of caramel and chocolate. Flavor is sweet chocolate covered cherries, with more cherry flavor than chocolate. Slight tartness creeps in. Very cool beer.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2011 Bottle... DLD06... Dark, clear, caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, well-tanned head. The nose is of chocolate and black cherries. When I take a sip, I’m confused... is this a stout brewed with cherries or is it a chocolately, dark, fruit beer? Light cocoa and big cherries in the flavor. Tart, but way too sweet at the same time. Medium to full-bodied and ultra silky with fizzy carbonation. Finishes sweet and tart. Odd bird, this one. But not bad at all... just dissonant and not really my thing.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with The_Enemy (as part of his surprise, unsolicited box of beers!) - thanks! Pours a deep ruby red color with a smaller sized off white head. Where to start on the aromas! Aromas of oak, vanilla, light cherries, light chocolate, some smoke, and whisky. Nice and complex with something new every sniff I took. Everything blended and worked perfectly. Tastes of strong cherries with light oak, vanilla and chocolate. Sweet and tart. In my book, New Glarus is definitely on top when comes to fruit beers.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2012 Bottle in KC, courtesy of foppa78 (re-rated bottle courtesy of arminjewell). Reddish brown appearance with a brown head. Rich cherry syrup, slightly nutty, light toffee, chocolate aroma. Fairly tart, sweet cherry pie filling, toasty, light chocolate malty, slight toffee flavor with a toasty, moderately tart cherry aftertaste. Update: 2012 version. Quite medicinal, child’s cough syrup, cherry aroma with a fair amount of oak. Tingly, super rich, tangy, syrupy cherry flavor that is somewhat medicinal. Way stronger on the negative side than I remember the last version being.
