COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison, the original Farmhouse Ale, was the refreshing invention of thirsty Belgian farmers. Wisconsin pale barleys brewed with Grains of Paradise in this bright new copper hued ale. Deceptively approachable, its complicated fermentation incorporates a blend of three Belgian yeast strains and is fully bottle conditioned. Fresh hops snap with lemon zest and peppery ginger notes, lending to its enigmatic personality. Enjoy, as this sassy Wisconsin Saison is at its best thirst quenching drinkability now.

Lightly spritzy propelling a citric lemony, and fruity melon aroma. Also some coriander and white pepper. The more golden side of copper with a beautiful fine bubbled white head. Sweet and drinkable with little hop in the finish. Canít pick out much as far as yeast profiles -- to estery for me to discern. Iíd be interested to revisit this beer done a bit more dry and with less in the way of fruit esters. There seems to be some compelling bits in the hay and what tastes to me like coriander but could be grains of paradise that might stand out more with this beer pared down as only New Glarus pares down.

Pours slightly hazy gold with white head. Aroma is yeast and lemon citrus. Lots of lemon and citrus flavors, but it also has a pine hoppy bite to it, also has some spicy peppery taste to is to that bites along with the hops. The yeast flavor starts to creep through more after a few drinks to, and itís good. Very crisp and refreshing. Good summer, beer, Iím not crazy about beers with so much lemon taste but the hop bite and spiciness kind of balance it out.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2012 Solid, refreshing. The downside is a slight rubbery finish, giving a bitter edge. Not my favorite NG.

Bottle given to me by thebaldwizard. Clear gold pour with a medium white head. Aroma of banana, malt and some spice. Malty nose with banana esters with some peppery and spicy character before an herbal finish.

Pours a clear gold with only a little head. Smells of orange and peach. Smells a little like a Sauvignon blanc to me. Palate is very carbonated but the flavor is very subtle. Not really sweet with a little bitter aftertste

Clear golden color with a large head. Classic Belgian yeast aroma: yeasty, slightly spicy, almost some black pepper and lemon. Dry barley and grainy flavor. A bit of floral hop. Unbelieveably dry. Some straw and black pepper. Bready. Nearly full bodied.

Bottle from Brookfield Discount. Pours very clear yellowish golden with fine bubbles and a white head. Leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is of all belgian yeast, plus some fruitiness and some bread. Taste has cloves, other spices, fruit, plenty of esters, a bit of earthiness. Dry and very belgian-y. Finishes with a small burst of sweet alcohol. Fresh, but not as saison-y as belgian-y to me.

355mL thanks to LtDan at Woodshop 7. Clear straw pour, weak head. Nose is banana and clove with spicy apple pie. Taste is spicy and seltzer with mild fall spices. Ends medicinal and sweeter. Aerated palate. Just way too much German hefeweizen yeast character. Not really fresh, snappy, dry, or doughy. More sweet, thick, and banana heavy. Ester overload.

(bottle) Pours a semi-hazy light gold with a medium white head which stays and minimal lacing. Looks well-carbed with an abundance of bubbles streaming upward. The aroma is the real highlight of this beer, with scents of lemon sugar cookies, Maytag bleu cheese funk (confirmed by a trip to the fridge), and some new-car smell. Somewhat of a punchy and spicy quality to the nose too, which could be the ginger and pepper component talking. Itís odd that when you swirl the beer, the aroma sweetens considerably, but if you let it sit, the earth and funk take hold. The flavor is a disappointment when compared to the aroma, as itís fairly one-dimensional. Thereís a strong basal tone of earth and light funk, with just faint glimmers of the lemon and spice being displayed. A bit bready and crackery on the finish. Flavor becomes a little more interesting with warming, as bubblegum and light banana show up. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is lively. Overall I really enjoyed the nose and was let-down a bit by the flavor.

Typical American saison, It pretty much hits all the key notes for the style. The belgians do it better though.
