Saison, the original Farmhouse Ale, was the refreshing invention of thirsty Belgian farmers. Wisconsin pale barleys brewed with Grains of Paradise in this bright new copper hued ale. Deceptively approachable, its complicated fermentation incorporates a blend of three Belgian yeast strains and is fully bottle conditioned. Fresh hops snap with lemon zest and peppery ginger notes, lending to its enigmatic personality. Enjoy, as this sassy Wisconsin Saison is at its best thirst quenching drinkability now.

Bottle poured a slightly hazy gold w/ a quickly diminishing white head and some lacing. Moderate aromas of ginger, spices and funk. Initial flavor very light sweet to a light sour finish. Tastes are spice, leather, grass, and yeasty dough. Light to medium bodied, creamy texture, lively carbonation with a dry alcohol feel in the finish.

Bottle:   Golden in color, very bright, light carbonation, moderate frothy white head, spotty lacing.   Mealy up front, otherwise that bready floral aroma so consistent with American examples of Saisons.   However, this one does seem to have a bit more spicy note, perhaps some peppery and citrusy flair.   On the tongue its very peppery, some ginger, with bready floral notes.   This one is not your average American Saison, but instead there is a twist.   Not dank or bright, tiz very spicy but not in the traditional sense.   Interesting example to say the least.

Bottle. Pours a mostly-clear golden yellow, minimal head. Smells strongly of lemon, orange. Perhaps has an almost smoky smell to it, not sure why Iím getting that. Has a good sweetness in the taste that isnít overpowering.

Bottled sample. Gold in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas are of lemon-lime soda, pastry flour, hay, and tropical fruit. Lots of compexity in the mouth, with notes of juicy apricot, lemon, earthy white pepper, minerals, and some green herbs. Starts off a bit slick on the tongue, but the strong carbonation, and moderate bitterness give it a nice lift. The yeast tells a bit too much of the story for my taste (would have liked a bit more hop character), but itís clearly a well made, drinkable, and complex beer.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden light amber, very large off white creamy head that dissipates slowly with nice, if clumpy, lacing. Aroma is grain, yeast, clove, spice, citrus, wheat. Flavor is about the same, lightly sweet with prickly carbonation. Quite nice, but i would call it a Belgian wit beer rather than a saison.

Bottle at Home, courtesy of my man hyroglyphyk! Pour is hazy orange with a big white head that quickly dissipated. Citrus, honey, light funk, band-aid, medicinal, straw, and spice in the aroma. Taste is spicy, floral, grassy, herbal, light rubber, yeast, light banana, and clove, with a crisp, spicy finish. Light and refreshing mouthfeel with fizzy carbonation. Another well-crafted beer from the guys at New Glarus. Well-done.
