Indulge in our heady scotch ale. This "Winter Warmer" is a celebration of roasted toffee notes wrapped in rich tawny tones and toasty palate. Two months in the making insures an incredible silky finish. Scottish folklore tells that the first person to step over your threshold brings with them luck for the New Year. Simple gifts of coal for warmth, salt for prosperity and ale for joy symbolize the bearerís wishes.

Pours a nice copper color with a fingers width of big bubbled, white head that fades rather quickly. Aromas are caramel, toffee and banana bread with a hint of booze. Tastes like toffee and caramel with some gumball and bread flavors then you get a decent booze hit and some weird bitterness. Overall this is a nice scotch ale, though it leans just a little too much towards boozy/bitter aftertastes. But with the limited availability of good Scotch Ales this ranks #2 behind Alesmithís Wee Heavy. Congrats New Glarus everything of yourís has been rock solid!

Bottle. Pours a lightly cloudy amber with fluffy tan head that quickly dissipates and some lacing. Nose is sweet toffee and banana bread. Full bodied, somewhat boozy and warming.

A golden amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a sweet fruity malt with lots of phenolics, alcohol burn, banana, light Brett. In mouth, a bready malt with coriander, cloves, loads of warming alcohol, licorice, OK but not a scotch ale. Tasted with GRM March 1 2013.

Pours a hazy dark amber with a copper core and a tall, chunky beige head that has great retention. Aroma has lots of toffee, caramel, cooked tree fruit, toast and floral notes. Flavor is very toffee forward, lots of toffee, apples and pears simmered in sweet sugary rum, floral and herbal hops and just enough booziness to make it have that pleasant warmth going down. Medium body with a creamy to sticky entry, mild, but blanketing carbonation and creamy finish. Pretty tasty stuff here, definitely hits alot of the right notes, reminds me of, and would go perfect with caramel drenched bread pudding, or flan.

Pours a copper color with a thin bubbly head. Aroma is toffee, caramel, and almost a light cinnamon and pumpkin. Mouthfeel is smooth, toasted malts, toffee and caramel - eventually warms the belly a little bit but not overly boozy.

Pours a deep red with a really big head & some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is like candied apple, certainly booze forward... but more in a refined brandy-like way than harsh or uninviting. A little bit of marmalade is in there as well.

The flavor is rich and has a nice caramel and toffee character while avoiding an overwhelming sweetness. The bitterness is low, but well enough established to provide a nice balance. The fruit character is more towards the red apple end of things. The beer is pretty boozy, but not really harshly so.

The high-ish carbonation seems to carry this beer pretty well despite it being fairly viscous.

dark amber with a huge off white head. Aroma is all sorts of toffee, caramel, a bit of rum soaked raisins, and a bit of butterscotch. Flavor has a slightly harsh metallic twang that just seems off, everything else though is here. Rich, hearty, and Iíll be damned if this isnít boozy too. Slightly peppery in the finish, big carbonation. This almost worked perfect for me, but something just wasnít right. Easily identifiable NG signature on this one.

12oz bottle, courtesy of New Glarus. Thanks! Pours a deep, clear orange-amber color; creamy, fine-bubbled light-tan head with nice lacing. Aroma shows a lot of candied sweetness and red fruits, though the sweetness itself is well restrained. Medium body; medium-high carbonation; a modest acidity and lean profile (for what otherwise seems a hefty brew) keep this from being overly hefty; lots of hard candy, toffee, and red fruitiness throughout; again, it never goes cloying, offering pretty pinpoint mouthfeel and composition. The finish offers some ascending bitterness and a candied balance overall.

Aroma of raisin, white grape, and apricot. Flavor also reminiscent of raisin, white grape, and apricot. It is balanced toward sweetness, but has a mild bitterness in the finish. Also has a bready finish. Medium full body with a mouth filling carbonation. Delicious little beer.

12oz bottle in a thistle. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel, cereal, and toffee notes from the malts plus a little bit of hops. Flavor a nice blend of the malts. Average texture. A pretty good Scotch ale.
