COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Indulge in our heady scotch ale. This "Winter Warmer" is a celebration of roasted toffee notes wrapped in rich tawny tones and toasty palate. Two months in the making insures an incredible silky finish. Scottish folklore tells that the first person to step over your threshold brings with them luck for the New Year. Simple gifts of coal for warmth, salt for prosperity and ale for joy symbolize the bearer’s wishes.

12 oz bottle and served in snifter: Pours a mahogany hue with a nice frothy head and lace. The aroma has notes of toffee, fruitcake, figgy pudding, sea salt, flowery and earthy yeast esters. The taste is quite malty and somewhat sweet with a dash of smoke and salt. The mouth feel is surprisingly sprite which helps cut the sweetness, shorter than expected finish. I would hard pressed to call this a Scotch Ale, more akin to a English styled Strong Ale. Still overall it is very quaffable, thanks Joe Popeck for the bottle.

Bottle. Hard to call this a Scotch Ale...Light Orange in color, with aromas of dried fruit- apricot and cherries. Some spicy yeast in there too. Taste is hot, with the alcohol noticeable right away. More dried fruit, sweet and malty. Toffee and caramel towards the end. More apricot too. More like a Dubbel than a Scotch. This is good, flavorful, and well made, despite the label...

Bottle in Vail. Thanks to adnielsen for sharing. Pours an orange color with white head. Malty, caramel, wood flavors. Meh, one of the lower end New Glarus beers.

Bottle thanks to Skyview:   Reddish caramel, moderate foamy sandy head, fairly nice lacing.   Sweet bready aroma, some biscuit, but also some alcohol.   Appears to also have an unripened fruitiness too.   Somewhat of a weird one in that its more fruity than smokey or peaty.   Very bready and fruity, but not all that bright.   This really is a weird one, as it doesn’t have the peaty/smokey aspect to it.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly full, chewy too.   However, its more fruity and bready than any other Scotch Ale I have had.   Slightly mealy on the finish.   Tiz okay, and certainly different.

A lighter scotch probably shouldn’t be named "Winter Warmer." This scotch ale doesn’t stick to your gills the way others do, despite the over-the-top packaging with foil and the like. You’ll do better with Founders or Three Floyds Scotches. And this is coming from a Wisconsinite! (New Glarus is overrated in just about every category. Go to Tyranena’s Brewers Gone Wild for the best in what Wisconsin has to offer).

12oz bottle, appearance is a cloudy brownish amber with tall head. Nice mild aroma of apple and caramel. Taste is light apple, caramel and spice. Not at all what you would expect with a name like winter warmer, it’s actually fairly light tasting and really easy to drink. Aging it for a bit may have taken the edge off, as there is no detectable alcohol. Overall quite the unique and enjoyable brew.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of arminjewell. Thanks! Gusher! Pours a bit hazy, reddish orange appearance with a cream colored head. Cola, caramel, orange fruity, toffee aroma. Heavily carbonated. Kind of chewy, cardboard/paper, toasted malty, caramel, a bit goopy, slightly herbal flavor that finishes with a bit of citrus. This sure hasn’t held up well based on this bottle.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark orange red pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, hints of cola in there, touch of earth, slight spice, some cherry juice. Taste is a mix of dark fruit, cola, hints of dark caramel, lots of cardboard, hints of spice, finishing fairly sweet, slightly dry.

Sweet toffee nose, some nuttiness. Orange-gold with a small tan head. Initial taste is like the nose, sweet caramel, but followed by a pleasant banana yeastiness and some sourness. Very present alcohol, some acidic bite. Quite heavy mouthfeel. Has aspects that alone might be undesirable but together balance each other very well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle... Pours clear and amber with a small, creamy, white head that’s gone in a flash. Unassuming aroma of toffee and biscuit. Nearly full-bodied with tickling carbonation. Toffee and biscuit flavor with a lightly acidic element. Finishes tangy and malty. Bottle courtesy of ctipping!
