Pours amber somewhat clear with a somewhat bright white head. The aroma brings a light grainy sweetness. The flavor brings light subtly sweet malts. It is pretty light for the style not bringing overbearing flavors at all which provides a smoothness that I rather enjoy.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a thin pale amber with 1 finger of fast fading foam. Not sure how this is a scotch ale, seems a bit weak in the flavor profile for that. Itís alright, but not special. The mouth feel and taste are just to thin for what I would expect when I see "winter warmer". Itís no drain pour, but its a bit lack luster.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle: pours a clear deep copper amber with a large froth of clingy off-white head. Has a sweet toasted dark caramel malty nose with a touch of light fruits. Body starts with some fizzy carbonation eventually revealing sweet toasted caramel malts and some toffee before a drier slightly peppery finish. Could have a little more complexity and balance, but is still pretty true to style.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle courtesy of Marco. Thanks. Pours a translucent copper color with a small white head that has fair retention. The aroma is soft with almonds, pears, apples and caramel. The taste is malt forward with caramel, white fruits and some bitter almond. The palate is full and creamy with medium carbonation. Finishes long with a bit of sweetness lingering. Overall: Very tasty.

Brown color. Malt base with really no perceivable hops, but that is fine in this style. Sweet with brown sugar and caramel.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Gold pour, white head, some lace/little retention. Aroma of caramel, toffee, green apple, banana, spice. Taste is sweet, warming, apple, banana, toffee, some hop bitterness. Palate is sharp carbonation, light sticky, oily, bitter/sweet finish. Not digging this but maybe it will improve with age.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks for the bottle, Mark! A deep copper colored brew with a fluffy slightly yellow tinted head. A big malty sweet and boozy nose with notes of caramel. There is also some wood and hay. Notes of booze at the front with some warming toffee. There is definitely some cereal grain. The finish is husky and dry with notes of Granny Smith apples. Tasty and smooth, this is well made.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle. Faded orange appearance, lots and lots of foam rising on top. An actively carbonated beer! Aroma of toffee, spice, caramel green apples. Taste is gentler than expected. I had to swish it around for a bit to track down and peg the flavors - raisins, toffee, marmalade, and some alcohol warmth throughout. Palate is light side of medium, very carbonated. Overall, this is a tame beer and very drinkable, but I had hoped for something bolder and more abundantly flavored, more punctuated in a category thatís admittedly warm and sorta jagged. Iím glad I tried this one, esp. given the obscurity of the winter warmer style (aka scotch ale here?) but Iíll opt for a different New Glarus variety next time.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle
This latest Winter Warmer release, part of the Thumbprint series, lives up to the high standards of a New Glarus release. I am glad that tastybeer picked up another one so I can enjoy it again in the future.
Aroma / Appearance - The lively head forms into dense chunks before collapsing it on itself. A warm caramel base fills the glass like melted toffees. Active carbonation releases a blend of snickers bar, caramel, warm pie crust, and nutmeg. This is what pies warming in the oven smell like at Christmas dinner.
Flavor / Palate - The caramel and light chocolate sweeten the palate. A full bodied mouthfeel traps flavor in every corner of the mouth. The sweet finish is warm on the back of the throat. This is a top notch scotch ale that everyone should try if they can get sone.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle poured a clear orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of carmel, apple, pear, orange zest and apricot. Palate was medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of carmel, apricot, apple, orange zest and light spice with a crisp lingering fruity finish. A very tasty beer, but I would never guess it was a Scotch Ale.
