| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2007 A dark brown/deep amber color. Not a strong/thick head. Flavors of coffee and chocolate. Well balanced. Sweet but not overpowering. Beer is medium in body. Just the right amount of carbonation that lightens the body. A decent bock from new glarus. badbeer (433), Iowa, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Beer pours a very deep brown, almost black with a slowly dissipating head with good lacing. The aromas of this beer are of coffee, chocolate, and a hint of caramel. Upfront taste is of caramel, chocolate, and toffee, finishing with a coffee taste. Beer is medium bodied. One or two of these and this beer is very drinkable, but after that it becomes a bit cloying. Still a nice beer to enjoy, tastes better as it warms a bit. Miver (583), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 18, 2007 Poured dark amber in color with off white head. Molasses aroma with flavors of brown sugar, burnt chocolate, vanilla and as axilla put it.... tomato guts. I concur. Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Pours a nice finger width head with a fairly strong lacing. Smells fairly sweet with a strong coffee flavor and smell of fresh barley like you would smell if you were in the New Glarus Brewery. A very dark beer with a slight dark amber color when held up to the light. Taste is like coffee with a mouthfeel that is fizzy and smooth. It’s a slightly sweet beer such as you would expect from a bock bier. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 8, 2007 Poured a very nice ruby body with a sticky beige head. Aroma is mollasses, brown sugar, and raisins. Flavors are cooked brown sugar, toffee, molasses, vanilla, and mild tomato guts. tennisjoel (952), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 5, 2007 Thanks to Jason (non ratebeerian) for a New Glarus mixed sixer for my birthday. Pours a deep red, almost violet hue. Quickly diminishing head which leaves behind killer lacing. Nice aroma of cocoa, vanilla, raisin, and ever so light roasted coffee notes. Dangerously drinkable and this is probably my favorite out of the NG mainstream lineup. Soonah (980), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 5, 2007 Pour was a clear, ultra-dark brown with some reddish highlights. A one-finger plus tall head that was off-white to tan in color rested briefly before succumbing to the darkness below it. A nice galaxy swirl hung out on top of the beer the whole way down and light lacing was produced. The aroma was malts, brown sugar, banana, yeast and even a bit of chocolate. The flavor was roasted malt, smoke and some chocolate initially but settled into a more standard malt, brown sugar, banana and slightly sour dark fruits as it opened up. The mouthfeel was a 3+, held in check by a lingering finish that was at times unpleasant. Headbanger (1601), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 2, 2007 12oz bottle-A nice dark brown body with a nice tan head and an aroma of malt and brown sugar. Taste is outstanding much better than the aroma. Both come out with some caramel, slight chocolate, and no alcohol for the fairly high amount. Great tasting brew.
