3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a 12oz Bottle. Pours a transparent, ruddy brown color with a thin layer of fizzy, off-white foam. Big raisin aroma with suggestions of leather and chocolate ice cream. Soft, but noticeable alcohol with a mild perfume-like quality. Hints of toast and some melanoidin malt richness. Medium bodied mouthfeel with moderately low carbonation, but the attenuation is such to provide a good balance for this beer. Not as dry or carbonated as the Belgian quads, but still maintains a satisfying level of drinkability and richness of flavor. Initial malt flavors of toast, fig and raisin, accompanied by light chocolate and a moderate alcohol presence that helps balance the sweetness. Hints of rum and the distinctive dark Belgian candi sugar sweetness, but the sweetness perception is mainly up front as it finishes relatively dry and clean. Toasted malt lingers in the finish, along with some mild pepper and floral alcohol perfumes. Big on flavor and devoid of the lingering sugar sweetness that plagues so many examples of this style. The "full bodied" commercial description had me a bit worried at first, but this beer ended up exceeding my expectations.

Aroma is old cardboard and caramel malt. Taste is pretty much the same with some malty doppelbock notes in there. Low to medium sharp carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
[Bottle] Deep reddish brown color with little head. Nose is spicy and yeasty. Dark fruit, raisin, brown sugar and clove all make an appearance. Toffee, darker fruits, rum, clove, sweet breads and hints of alcohol in the state. Decent palate. Taste is a little muddled at times, but it’s still a good beer. Tasting notes from 2012.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Mörkbrun och klar. Inget skum. Doft av godis, kola. ganska komplex doftbild som för tillfället känns ogreppbar. Mer åt barleywine-typ. Ganska hög kolsyra. Åldrats med värdighet. Kola dominerar smakbilden.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep, translucent garnet with a film of a tan head. Aroma is surprisingly faint - candied sugar, caramel, vanilla, but this didn’t open up much, even upon warming. Flavor is pretty good, sugary malts, raisin, plum, caramel, hint of booze. Palate is smooth and easy drinking. Given my high standards for NG, this one fell a bit short, though it was still a good drink that I look forward to having again.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle thanks to adnielsen ! Pours a deep mahogany color with a finger of eggshell foam. The nose is filled with belgian candi sugar, flat cola and a trace of herbal earthiness. The palate follows with lots of dark earthy character that balances nicely of the background gingerbread, burnt sugar and cola. Traces of anise, wet wood, vanilla and charcoal linger. Complex and tasty !

Few year old bottle, pours very dark brown with ruby hue. Nose candy sugar, molasses, raisin, slight booze. Taste sweet up front, Belgian candy sugar, some raisin and faint spice. Decent mouthfeel for old bottle.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottled August 2010
A: pours a really neat cola ale with a single finger of light tan head which falls quickly to a centrally capped sheet of the same. Little/no lacing. Gotsta give some recognition here, man it’s brilliant, never seen a quad with this much clarity.
S: Malts are typical of a quad, sweet, nougat, some dark stone fruits, maybe a specific hint of prune. Yeast is there, subdued for the style, which is nice IMO.
T: Sweet and sweet. I really have a hard time here. Just seems like sweet, malty, belgian candy sugar. Some hints of earthy yeast.
M: Thin with moderate carb. Semi-dry finish. Expect a little more body here.
O: This beer looks great, unfortunately, it doesn’t stand out in the nose. The flavors are one-dimensional. The mouthfeel is unimpressive.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: AUG 12, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Jeff! Dark brown, deep shades of ruby with a muddled, soft gray tinted head. Aroma is sweet dates and prune juice, light phenols, some vinous grape sweetness, and a bit of molasses in the back. Taste is softer than most quads; touch of phenol, bit of prunes and a slight hint of black licorice. Some sweet molasses and a little bit of alcoholic grape in the finish. Decent quad, but this isn’t Dan’s best work.
