Commercial Description:
Inspired by the Trappist brewers of Belgium, our heavyweight Quadruple tips the O.G. scales at 25 degrees P. Master Brewer, Daniel Carey, sourced the Brett yeast that boldly frames this refined and complex strong ale. First coddled in our Oak lager tanks and then slowly matured in bourbon barrels. This is a bold beer that sips like a refined cordial of nutmeg, dried cherries and vanilla. Perfect for lying down or sipping by the fire tonight. http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/beers/unplugged belgian quad.html

Charismatic amber color with a small sweet light brown head. Malty sweet alcohol in nose initially but quite complex. Taste of sour tannins and caramel. Oaky cream notes with a warming malty sweet complex bourbon finish.

Damn, another great bottle provided by bobo. Pours a light amber color, very little head. Malty aroma up front, but it seems as if the brett is making it’s self known. The brett has defitinely affected the flavor, the sourness is there, but is still subdued. Enhancing a richly malty and warming flavor. Way too easy to drink, that 11% is hidden so well.

Courtesy bobomaster. Pours a clear amber color with a small light tan head. Smells of malts, light fruits, a little caramel, and definitely get a little of that brett kicking in too. The taste is slightly funky, a lot of rich malts and caramel flavors, but the brett has definitely kicked in and soured it slightly. The dark fruitswere there too, but the brett has seemingly balanced it out quite nicely. Drinks very well. Full flavored and relatively smooth to drink even though it is a high gravity brew. Nicely done.

Wow, this smells great! Cherries, oak, vanilla, red wine vinegar and cream with a hint of earthiness. Taste is dark fruits, malty, sea salt, and alcohol followed by a rush of alcohol, tartness, and tannins that clear everything up making this into an 11% session beer. Such an immense amount of depth to every part of this beer, but easy to drink; it is the hallmark of a truly great beer. The barrels that gave this beer life also graced the lives of the Bourbon Barrel Bock, those were some great barrels!

Well, I wholeheartedly agree with puzzl and xmarcnolanx that this is far from being a quad. Pours clear copper with a small tannish head. The aroma has caramel malts, Belgium yeast and some light spice - very smooth aroma. Medium body with minor sharp carbonation. The taste is spicy and sharp with yeasty funk. The finish has a bit of spice, sourness, cherries and maybe even a hop note. An enjoyable beer I’d have again, but far from being close to style.

Another decent American quad that really has absolutely nothing to do with real belgian quads. Cinnamon and big spice aroma. Winter fruits and toasted corn and whiskey. The pour is the first evidence that this is very American, as the head is fizzy and soda-like, lacking that beautiful, super-thick dense white head of the real 12s. It is also rather pale. Sweetness and candy apples in the mouth, savory thanksgiving spices and sharp phenols. A touch hot, but not too bad. Could stand to use a little aging to tone down heat and edge, but I can’t see this beer improving otherwise. Not too much expression or complexity and, AFAIC, another American failure at making a real quad (despite the fact that it is quite decent).

Bottle: Pours a golden amber with a head that quickly fades to nothing. Very little carbonation. Some malt and tons of belgian phenols and esters in the aroma. Flavor is malty and quite estery with notes of red apples and pears. Lots of phenols too, plenty of bubblegum and tons of clove notes with just a hint of banana. I even detect a bit of hops for almost unnoticeable bitterness. Finishes fairly dry. My biggest complaint about this is that it is crystal clear and obviously filtered, i think it loses something there.

12oz bottle wife got in Wi. Sweet cherry and cinamon spice aroma light up the nose. Copper body color with beige head and spotty lacing. Sweet fruity plumb, cherry, spice and thickness of body actually hid some of the alcohol that is somewhat noticable. Sticky fruity slight dry palate but smooth beer to drink. AHHH........
