Commercial Description:
Inspired by the Trappist brewers of Belgium, our heavyweight Quadruple tips the O.G. scales at 25 degrees P. Master Brewer, Daniel Carey, sourced the Brett yeast that boldly frames this refined and complex strong ale. First coddled in our Oak lager tanks and then slowly matured in bourbon barrels. This is a bold beer that sips like a refined cordial of nutmeg, dried cherries and vanilla. Perfect for lying down or sipping by the fire tonight. http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/beers/unplugged belgian quad.html

While I really love this beer, it seems surprisingly "thin" to me. Unfortunately, that’s what makes this such a "drinkable" quad - between the fruity character to temper the harsh maltiness and the thin body, you can definitely drink more than one of these, which at 11% is probably not a great idea.

(Bottle, thanks Ughsmash) Pours reddish copper to orange. Complex, light vinous aroma of fruits like mango, pineapple, apple and kiwi. Some berries are also present like cherries and gooseberries. Malty with some caramel, nuts and juicy, syrupy dark bread. Yeast, tobacco and subtle spices in the background along with oaky bourbon notes of alcohol, vanilla and some coconut. Maybe some rust. Flavour starts fruity, grapey and vinous. Continues with some tarter notes of berries and finishes with a buttery, bourbon, coconut twist. Round and silky mouthfeel with a light sticky touch. Some alcohol warmth gives the flavour an extra punch. Apples and bourbon lingers. Medium to full body. Complex, well balanced and rather unique in its style.

I was expecting a lot more out of this one. Pours a very full to dark yellow with a thin lacy head. Aroma of dough, white wine, and...metal? Mouthfeel is sticky sweet with notes of cinnamon, white grapes, and metal/aluminum.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a small foamy beige head. The aroma is a complex mix of fruits (cherry), spices, vanilla, and a hint of bourbon. Moving on from the wonderful aroma to the flavors. The cherries from the aroma are joined by other fruits like apples. Spices, vanilla, vinous characteristics, wood, and bourbon round out the flavors. Its amazing how well this is balanced when you consider all of the different flavors. The mouthfeel is medium and it moves to a dry finish. This was a very enjoyable introduction into the Unplugged series of beers.

12 ounce Bottle from pantanap, Thanks Kan! nose has a note of horseblanket, vanilla, fruits, and spices; clear copper with a small beige head; flavor shows alcohol, a smidgeon of bretty horseblanket, nutmeg, oak, light bourbon, and some pumpkin esters, in fact it tastes a lot like some type of pumpkin pie Thanksgiving drink. I guess I picked up different flavors than others and the commercial description, but I detected no cherries, just the bourbony pumpkin! Man better than any of the pumpkin ales I have rated! As Maxwell Smart would say, "Verrry interesting!"

I’m starting to think that cherries are floating around the New Glarus Brewery, like the wild yeasts in Belgian Lambic breweries. Between the Red, the Cherry Stout, Enigma, and this, one could make a case that somehow fresh cherry flavor just magically infuses their beer. This is not a complaint, by the way. This another excellent beer from New Glarus. In addition to cherry, you’ve got note of white wine and vanilla, and just a subtle hint of bourbon, all on a very soft, filling palate. Very impressive. Thanks to Buckybeer for the trade!

Bottle: Pours a clear amber with no head. Nose is fruity and spicy. Cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon come to mind. The flavor is also fruit with citrus and apple cider tones, some clove and other spices too. Nice and smooth. Thanks Footbalm.

12 oz bottle from KingpinIPA, I think. Thanks man. Dark amber color. Aroma of caramel, mixed with some sourness. Flavor is pretty nice, a deep and complex flavor with lots of yeast floating around. There is a very slight hint of Brettomyces, but it’s barely noticeable, which is fine with me. Alcohol is not really hidden, but that’s about the only flaw I can find. Another good beer from New Glarus.
