Aroma of caramel, mixed with some sourness. Flavor is pretty nice, a deep and complex flavor with lots of yeast floating around. There is a very slight hint of Brettomyces, but it’s barely noticeable, which is fine with me. Alcohol is not really hidden, but that’s about the only flaw I can find. Another good beer from New Glarus. eaglefan538 (2360), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 24, 2007 Amber-orange colored pour from a bottle courtesy nolankowal. Not an impressive head in the ol’ Chimay glass, near nil lacing. Ok, so appearance isn’t impressive relative to peers. The aroma was vanilla, oak, cherries, caramel malts and a spice that was seemingly cinnamon. The flavor was sweet caramel-candied sugar, oak, cherries (very prominent), vanilla, light bourbon, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The broubon was very well-tamed if indeed this was bb aged, oak and wood stronger than anything bourbon. Cherry flavors reminiscent of the Belgian Red, as this also had some clear lactic/bret notes. Mouthfeel was light to moderate for the style. Alcohol a little too harsh, and this is lacking the depth of flavor (dark fruits) and full mouthfeel to be a classic quad. However, if you view this more as a Belgian Strong-Fruit or Flemish type hybrid, you may enjoy. I did. Thanks, John, a very fun experience, not a beer in my other 1600 like it! | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Jul 24, 2007 12oz bottle, gotten a bunch in trades guessing this one could have been from my pal Ughsmash, thanks Jason. Pours copper with a thin tan head. The nose is sweet fruity and full of a lot of complexity. The taste is slightly acidic and alcohol heavy on the front end and sweet and bretty in the middle. There are a few flavor profiles here, caramel, malty, and fruit. Overall solid i’ll see how it gets as it warms as thats the real test. The alc though is strong and I’m guessing its because NG doesn’t really brew high abv beers very often, it isn’t there bread and butter. jarspag (595), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Bottle thanks to Ughsmash. Aroma is mostly sweet malts, dried fruits, oak, and some acidic bret-like undertones...flavor is much the same - much improves as it approaches room temperature. Reminded me a little bit of the Bon Chien but WAY better . . . nice beer! kkearn (999), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 15, 2007 12oz bottle (Thanks, Stine). Pours Clear amber, with a moderate sized off-white head. Really nice aroma, the tartness of the brett takes the forefront, with some caramel, fruit and spice as well. Big, caramel malt flavor, with spices, oak, vanilla, alcohol, and some vinous notes. Long lasting sweet malt and alcohol finish. The wood aging adds nice character to this beer. This is a beautiful beer! kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2007 Aroma of sherry, dates and dough. Very clear amber hue with minimal head. Flavor is cherries, oak and just a hint of vanilla. Finish leans more toward the tart cherry and has a warming sensation. Medium mouthfeel. This is one that will no doubt improve with age. ratman197 (3189), Arvada, Colorado, USA

Aromas of fruitiness, oak, vanilla and a hint of bourbon. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of fruitiness, light oak, hint of vanilla and a light hint of bourbon with a smooth semisweet finish. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Bottle. Clear amber colour with a nice head. Aroma of wine-like, malt and sourness. Flavour of malt, caramel and wine-like with a acidity finish, reminds me of a flemish sour.
