ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Apr 24, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Juelze, thanks Ryan. Pours a copper color with a fairly substantial beige colored head, nice lacing. Aroma is fruity pear or apple, estery, oaky, and alcohol. Flavor is cherries, apple, brown sugar, hints of vanilla and alcohol. Palate is medium to full bodied, medium to highly carbonated, finishes on the sweet side, with some alcohol warmth. Very good, I have not tried the best Quads out there, so I did not quite know what to expect, but I liked it! grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Apr 22, 2007 Pours an orange amber with smallish off-white head. Light fruit and spice aroma. Alright flavor, seems a little subdued. Can notice the alcohol, but it is well hidden. Tmoney99 (4661), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 21, 2007 Bottle shared at the Dilly Deli. Poured clear reddish amber with an averaqge white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy complex tart fuirt and herbs and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture. Heavy balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet and small alcohol burn finish of moderate duration. This is a standout beer. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 20, 2007 12 oz bottle via trade with John. Pours a beautiful clear coppery orange color with a medium white head. Strong spicy apple cinnamon aroma. Taste is spicy with strong apple cinnamon flavor along with nutmeg and fresh yeast. Alcohol well hidden. Very tasty. I’m a big fan of the New Glarus unplugged series. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Apr 17, 2007 Got some yeast, some spice and a slight sourness in the aroma.Pours mediumcopper with a thin off white head.Flavor has some yeast, spice and some alcohol.Medium mouthfeel with some spice and alcohol in the finish. Silphium (2117), Haslett, Michigan, USA Apr 17, 2007 Relatively clear orange-red body, thin off-white head. Rather lifeless. Heavy aroma of light fruits (pear and apple in particular), spicy esters, bourbon, and alcohol. The body begins with sweet cherries, apple, and brown sugar, giving way to hot, prickly alcohol and bitter esters. A few sips are sufficient to coat the palate, reducing the alcohol heat, but the rawness of the beer is still evident. Complexity is lacking, particularly relative to the best Quads on the market. There are essentially two components to the flavor profile, one of sweet fruity malt, and the other of prickly alcohol and bitter spice. There is little discernible interplay among the elements, unfortunately. This may improve with age. Currently, I find it a bit hard to drink and "green." moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Apr 17, 2007 Thanks to brewblackhole for the bottle. Aroma is of light yeast, lots of apple, and caramel malt--and just a tinge of alcohol. Gorgeous golden brown appearance with a slight head. Medium to full palate. The taste is sweet fruity flavors which are balanced nicely by spicey yeast flavors and some wood tastes. The alcohol warmth tastes nice in the finish. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 16, 2007 12 oz bottle, via Monger. Pours a perfectly clear copper colored body under a one finger foamy beige head. Thick curtains of heavy lacing remained. The aroma is very fruity and sweet with some peach, light spices, a little oak, moderate alcohol, and a bit of toffee. Flavor is very fruity and full of sweet malt initially, fading to a bourbon and oak laced alcoholic finish. Maybe a bit of suggestion after I read the label, but there is a nice cherry flavor. This is really missing the depth and complexity of the big Belgian Quads though. Mouthfeel is very full bodied and quite viscous with a little too much fizzy prickly carbonation. Very warming on the finish. Not my kind of Quad. This really reminded me of Avery Reverend and Founders Bad Habit, (although nowhere near as bad as Bad Habit), overly sweet with lots of alcohol. I’ll stick with the classics I think.
