Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 15, 2007 clear orange body with a small white head.the aroma blends up a beautiful mix of oak, brett, cherries, vanilla, cinnamon, brown sugar, and allspice.flavor mixes up the aroma with some bananas, and belgian candy thrown in as well.although its different from any quad i have had from belgium, its still really, really good. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA Apr 15, 2007 Nutty bourbon and oak nose with some mild spice notes. Some soft vanilla and fruit on the palate. Clean rich, complex and wonderfully drinkable. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Apr 14, 2007 New Glarus Unplugged Belgian Quadruple pours a beautiful clear, golden bronze/orange/copper color. There is a mild to moderate amount of visible carbonation and the head is small, foamy, and ivory in color. After the initial head disappears, the residual thin veil is stangnant with a faily thick ring around the edge. The first pass at the modestly sweet aroma reveals an alluring bouquet various fruits (including cherry), spice, bubblegum, and vanilla. From a distance, the sweet bourbon aroma is quite noteworthy and captures my attention, but it is only slightly detectable in closer proximity to the actually beer. The flavor contains a wonderful medly of various fruits (apples, cherry, grapes), subtle spice, oak/woody undertones, and warming, obvious alcohol (whisky-like). Overall the flavors are well-blended and mildly sweet with a balancing dryness in the finish. This beer has a soft, medium body. The mouthfeel is interesting as it is smooth and milky sometimes, but sticky at other times. I am quite pleased with this beer overall. I think it is a wonderful American interpretation of a Belgian Quad. I also this that this beer will cellar quite nicely. I look forward to experiencing another bottle of this in 6 months to a year or so...
12 oz bottle from buckybeer. Thanks for another great beer Mark! Keep ’em coming... incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA Apr 12, 2007 This was my first quad ever so forgive me. Pours like an IPA, but this is just to sweet for my tastes. Looks of differnt flavors happening for sure, can taste cherries for sure, as NG is a big fan of those. I can see how people like these, lots of flavor, just to sweet for me. gunsho (134), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 10, 2007 aomas of grape and apple with hints of coriander, poured a deep amber with a golden head. tastes of apple, nutmeg, cherries, vanilla, oak and bourbon. heavy on the tongue and active in the cheeks, quite nice. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA Apr 7, 2007 aroma makes me think of sugary sweet candied fruit. appearance is a fiery orange with a quick fading head. flavor is predominantly sweet candi sugar, but with undertones of candied fruit, oak and a faint hint of bourbon. I need to find a couple more bottles, cause me-thinks it will be better in a year or two. thanks to robert for the 12 oz. bottle. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Apr 6, 2007 Bottles from captaincougar, robertsreality. Pours copper with a thin white ring and some sustained carbonation. Smells of perfume, roses, some nice wildness (guess that’s the Brett), and sweet malt. Tastes of caramel, chewy toffee, and earthy with some brown sugar. This seems to be going the La Trappe route and does it well. Some hints of cherries and even touches of lemon and oak emerges as this beer warms. Mouthfeel on this is lemony and earthy. Finish is sweet with some lasting spiciness. Alcohol is not detectable on this one, making it dangerously drinkable. I think this might be the first American example to emulate La Trappe Quad as well as this does. Excellent! blizzardlover (43), Minnesota, USA Apr 5, 2007 Nice pour. Not a lot of head. Ruby red color. Looks like a desert wine. Orange/oak-smell. Some cherry in there. Sweet taste - fruity, cherry fires up. Soapy. Very rich. The alcohol is hidden. Clean finish for a beer that should be eaten with a fork and knife. Lovely taste.
