hezron (594), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 5, 2007 Brett on the nose, funky barnyard, fruity with some dark fruit and caramel. I’m very surprised at the strength of the Belgian character. Some oak, lots of yeast character. Interesting. Medium-amber in color, very clear with a thin, off-white head. Flavor is sweet, with raisins, brown sugar, cherry pits, caramel and dried fruit. Warming with a hint of sourness (acetic acid) but it is very subtle. Then a buttery oak flavor comes through in the finish, perhaps a hint of bourbon and an almost astringent finish. Full bodied, creamy texture, fairly sweet, while staying dry in the finish. The main flaw is some noticeable alcohol. An interesting, complex beer.
mrm1021 (18), Naperville, Illinois, USA Oct 4, 2008 Bottle acquired in New Glarus during a Labor Day visit. Pours with a thin white head and nice copper color. Aroma initially of bourbon and cherry and musty. Flavor of caramel and bourbon with hints of vanilla. Definite tase of alcohol and there is somewhat of a weak finish initially but gets better when warmed up a bit. It would be nice to get another bottle to try this Quad in a year or two. Still a nice Quad from New Glarus. BOLTZ7555 (528), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle acquired via trade with iowaherkeye...Joey thanks!!! This one definitely doesn’t live up to the real thing. Faint vanilla, oak, and cherries in the aroma...sweet and malty in the mouth. Just not very complex and a bit thin. Alcohol (11% ABV!!!) is still present...this one could benefit with some years behind it. bierkoning (4932), La Tropica, Netherlands Sep 26, 2008 Bottle @ home. Orange brown color. Malt, cherry and a hint of flowers in the aroma. Full bodied. Sweet but oaky flavor, malty with dried cherries and mango. Slightly alcoholic. Flowery hops and dried fruit in the aftertaste. powerful and flavorful beer with some complexity. CanIHave4Beers (208), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Sep 25, 2008 Pours with a big head that goes away into nothingness, the beer is a clear deep amber color. There is a lot going on in the aroma here sweet malt aromas include raisins, and a bit of coco. This pairs well with a light oak aroma. The beer is delicious with dry and sweet fruit flavors of apple, prune, cherry, and raisin. There is a bit of oak in the flavor that mixes well with a subtle nuttiness and vanilla a flavors, this is very cordial like. I am surprised that there is brett in this, I don’t really taste that, but I’m keeping a few bottles around for a few years, we will see what develops. doubleo (834), San Diego, California, USA Sep 19, 2008 12oz bottle thanks to Badbeer. Poura hazy light brown with light red highlights, very thin, crisp offwhite head. Smells deep and dark sweet fruity with some alcohol notes and some sweet wood as well. Tastes dark and sweet fruity malty with sherry alcohol notes and wood, sweet and dry. Medium body, good carbonation. Another winner from NG.
