Commercial Description:
Inspired by the Trappist brewers of Belgium, our heavyweight Quadruple tips the O.G. scales at 25 degrees P. Master Brewer, Daniel Carey, sourced the Brett yeast that boldly frames this refined and complex strong ale. First coddled in our Oak lager tanks and then slowly matured in bourbon barrels. This is a bold beer that sips like a refined cordial of nutmeg, dried cherries and vanilla. Perfect for lying down or sipping by the fire tonight. http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/beers/unplugged belgian quad.html

Poured a clear copper color with a medium sized off-white head. Nice mix of big bretty leather and fruitiness and sweetness of a quad. The flavor had a yeasty spice with sweet notes as well as brett. Medium to full bodied with a dry finish.

This bottle was aged a year. It pours a cloudy pure yellow with minimal head. It has an eggy yeasty smell, and that is in the taste. Not complex and fruity, it is still an interesting fullmouthed Belg, with a salty aftertaste.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and biegaman, my bottle via trade with oakbluff - thanks!!!. Slightly hazy bright light bronze with a small off-white frothy head. Aroma - well it’s nice, but a quad? - tart apple cider, alcohol, oak resin, sweet malt and a sour ale level of sour funkiness hovering around ... brett? Taste - brett!! - funky, balanced, oak/vanilla, sweet fruity malt, smooth spice and tartness - damn that’s nice - not strictly on style I’d say, but who cares? - it’s terrific! Syrupy, slick body, alcoholic and resiny mouthfeel, balanced finish. This really gets bourbon aging right - subtle and yummy.

This Belgian Quad pours a medium amber color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized to no head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, some yeast and some oak. There is also some cherries and a touch of funk. A medium bodied quad. The malts are fruity and sweet. Candi sugar and a hint of brown sugar as well. There are hints of oak and bourbon and cherries and some funk. Wow there is a lot going on in this beer. There is some interesting spice interplay as well. Its nowhere near as full in the mouth as most quads, but it has a certain quality that make this a very nice beer to sit and sip and figure out and enjoy the interplay of flavors. Hides the alcohol well. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full, but not thick. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a slight hint of alcohol.

Bottle [Courtesy of hopscotch, thanks buddy for an excellent trade] Average light fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. Somewhat clear amber color. Quite explosive Quart notes with the classic Belgian yeast-dried fruit-heavy sweet malty notes. Also comes alcohol that gives it this vinous feel. Over the palate came what could appear like mild spice and a hint of bitterness. Full bodied with an average carbonation. Heavy sweet flavor with light acidic and bitterness. Lingering dried fruity and vinous lasting finish.

Poured a clear amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, raisins, leather, black cherry, brett, vanilla oak, and alcohol as well. Taste of more cherries, vanilla, toffee malts, dark fruits, citrus fruits, and alcohol in the finish.

Slightly hazy dark orange color with no head. My nose has got to be a foot away from it and the alcohol is wafting over this way. Orange, oak, slight bourbon, cherry, vanilla all in the aroma. Wow... this is an interesting taste. All of the aroma is there, plus nutmeg and cinnamon. The yeast is providing a lot of fruitiness. Stine mentioned ’steak sauce’; I couldn’t agree more. I think in particular, I think Worcestershire sauce and raisins. Very odd mix, but quite tasty for me. I’ll be storing a couple bottles for aging.

12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orangey light copper with a thin lasting head and some really nice lace. Aroma has initial spotty hints of brett and funk, then some strong sharp syrupy sharp caramel malt flavors, sweet, almost barleywine like with an herbal floral hop quality. More sweet caramel malts, toffee, sugary sweet, some brown sugar and maple syrup- and just hints of brett or funk- more comes through in the aroma. Ok finish but a bit astringent and harsh- almosnt and cherry pit like. It almost seems as if this is filtered? Fairly clear and no sediment/? Not sure if this will or wont get more funky or bretty, but I sure hope so. Ok beer, but would be better with more funk. Kind of a let down when I had an aged JP maracaibo especial beforehand.
