Commercial Description:
In 1985 before The Wall fell, and just after the birth of our youngest daughter, Dan followed his Siren’s Call making the true Brewer’s pilgrimage to the birthplace of modern beer; Pilsen. Inspired by the noble brew he scribbled notes; triple decoction, 100% Czech Moravian malt, fermentation in unlined oak tanks, generous amounts of Saaz Hops, Krausening and a three month ice cold lager. An elegant masterpiece of complexity lost to change in the Czech Republic. We resurrect and invest, by brewing without compromise, that exact Old World recipe and this is the brew - Bohemian Lager.

This is the third time I’ve sampled this; it’s about time I get a rating in here. Pours a nice deep golden color, just slightly hazy with a nice solid medium sized white head with plenty of retention and lots of lace. Aromas of yeast, bread, cake, fresh cut hay, citrus, and bohemian hops flood out of the glass. The flavor is truly strong and very dry nicely hoppy with plenty of saaz character. The flavor is doughy with some decent yeasty notes and some woodiness, not from the fermenters I suspect but from the hops, this is complimented by a good earthiness and some mild pilsner grainy and saltiness. This has a very bright character and a very full mouth feel. I really enjoy this beer, very much like a kicked up version of some of New Glarus’ pilsners from the past, I do hope this one is resurrected again.

first beer from my trade with John (pfoxyjohn) .. actually drank this minutes after receiving my package, was the perfect chilled temp, funny enough ... Lots of pleasing crisp pilsner aromas .. soapy yet firm head .. .nice clean flavours, well balanced and clean.. . reminds me of simpler joy filled times .. a nice very well made lager, the BMC companies should really be worried if this is ever brewed in mass.. . what are the dynamo gonna do??

Another bottle from Ryan. Thanks for helping me drink all weekend Ryan. Pours out a dark brownish color with a thick white head on it. Smell is grassy, hoppy, a little bit of straw in it. Taste is fruity and kind of bitter. Very easy to drink, probably one of the better pilsners I have had, but with most pilsners I find there is little to say about them. Not bad, too bad it is an unplugged since it probably will not be made again.

Bottle sampled on 11/9/08: Pours a clear bright golden with a stringy-lacing froth of creamy white head. Fresh noble hoppy nose has a nice light pale malty presence. Body is semi-sweet and has great authentic fresh hoppy character and balance and is incredibly smooth and drinkable. This is probably the best pilsener of any kind that I’ve had.

Poured golden with a thin head. Floral hop aroma. Light and crisp with some floral, grassy hops and a touch of malt. Reminds me a little bit of a kolsch. Well done.

12oz bottle 3/13/09 (Discount liquors)-Poured a clear golden with a nice big tight white head. Aroma consists of malt and hops along with a doughy aroma. Taste starts with hops, malt, and some sweetness then goes into some bitterness then sweetness. This light bodied brew is very well balanced and quite tasty, Another great brew from NG.

Another NG gem from noncaloric. A copper pour with a fair sized white head. Aroma is full of malt, caramel, bread and some fruit. Only faint notes of hops. Flavor is grainy and malty, a bit sweet and some crisp hops balance it well. For a lager this is pretty damn good.

Bottle. Pours a clear light orange with a small white head. Aroma of toasted malts, cracker malt, and some skunk. Flavor of vegetable stew and cracker malt. It’s pretty decent, kind of odd tasting to me though. I’m not sure what to make of it, but I did enjoy drinking it. 7/4/8/4/14 Ɠ.7/5)

Update 8/21/09: Aroma of crackery malt, skunk, cardboard. Flavor of sweet fruits, floral hops, and lager malt. Decent and drinkable. 7/4/7/4/14 Ɠ.6/5)
