COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1985 before The Wall fell, and just after the birth of our youngest daughter, Dan followed his Siren’s Call making the true Brewer’s pilgrimage to the birthplace of modern beer; Pilsen. Inspired by the noble brew he scribbled notes; triple decoction, 100% Czech Moravian malt, fermentation in unlined oak tanks, generous amounts of Saaz Hops, Krausening and a three month ice cold lager. An elegant masterpiece of complexity lost to change in the Czech Republic. We resurrect and invest, by brewing without compromise, that exact Old World recipe and this is the brew - Bohemian Lager.

Brownish golden color. Smell of hops, malt, spice, candy sugar and bread. Tastes the same. Not one of my favs from New Glarus.

Unexpected extra from StFun; alcohol content unspecified, even on my bottle. Thanks: a pilsener right about now would just about hit the spot. To Smuttynose pint it pours a hazy orangeade with a trim, snowy white head 1˝ fingers in length. Aromas of citrus, melon seeds, noble hops, lager yeast, wheat malt, and plantains. Tastes of breadcrumbs/sourdough, ginger, and cloves. Spices, sea salt and orange peel. Is this really a Pilsener? I thought this was a Wit for a second. Even a Hefeweizen is more on-par with this than a pils, but this this is a Daniel Carey pils so I just give respect where respect is due. Not by any means bad, just not what I’d have come to expect.

Bottle:   Fiery golden, moderate white head, frothy, nice lacing.   Semi-sweet pale bready nose, faint sweetgrass and honey infused hay.   Had that signature Czech Pils like background, with its subtle hops and crisp clean grassiness thats a little dry and sweet.   Pretty refreshing.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Seems to have a smidgen more body than stuff from overseas.   Very tasty like every other New Glarus beer, this one is no exception.   Good stuff as always!

Originally reviewed: 12/15/09. Poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a slightly murky gold with a big frothy white head on top. Excellent retention; left beautiful sip rings and plenty of lace. Scents of corn mash, light lemon, and faint hops. Moderate body with a good amount of crisp carbonation. Flavors of citrus, bread, and a good hop finish. Bitterness was moderate-to-low. I could drink this all night. Great beer. I’d love to get my hands on some more of this.

Bottle @ home. Golden orange appearance that’s pretty hazy with a cream colored head. Mild, yet somewhat spicy European hops, sweet yet real smooth pale malty nose that’s pretty tame. Somewhat spicy european hoppy, golden pale malty flavor that is quite smooth and not too strong. Nice, smooth brew but pretty tame and not too exciting.

Bottle... Poured golden with a white head that dissipated eventually to nothing. Very clean lager, lots of depth, decent hop flavors. Malts offered some bread-like balance and body, the yeast notes were clean and as they should be. Hops were earthy, slightly grassy and floral.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a nice moderate amber color with a good white head. The nose brings some light bready malt and some nice, mild fruity undertones. The taste is definite bread with some good caramel and a light hop presence. Some slight yeast characteristics. Good, crisp mouthfeel leading to excellent drinkability. Additionally, after having this a few times over a fairly extended period of time, I can say that this aged quite well. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-29-2010

Naja... 9/9/9/9/11/9

Comes in a 12 ounce bottle with a small story of the beer on the label. Pours with 0 head just some foam on top and a dark orangeish/gold color. The color of this one is not up to Pilsener snuff. On the nose there is some noble hops, though they smell medicinal and a bit of malt as well. Taste is better, nice balance between the hops and malt, with a hoppy edge in the finish. Overall it is not up to par with the centuries-old recipes of Bavaria.

(beer tasting @ Monty’s Krown - Rochester, NY: bottle - 12 oz) Gold pour with a thin head and mild carbonation. Slightly sweet and earthy aroma with some nice but mild hop bitterness and a very good malt balance. Flavor is a little more on the sweet side but has a good hop character to balance it out. Smooth and easy drinking.

From notes: Pours a clear golden yellow color with a two finger, frothy white head that has very good retention, only slowly fading into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lacing. Slightly earthy pilsner malt aroma with hints of grass, straw, lemon and light, crisp fruit. Surprisingly full bodied and much more complex than anticipated. Pilsner malt flavor balanced by some earthy bitterness along with hints of straw, lemon zest and crisp golden apple. Slightly dry finish. Very well balanced and quite quaffable. This beer was a pleasant surprise.
