Commercial Description:
Seventh in our series, this is Dan's Gold Medal winning "Unplugged Cherry Stout." This ale is aged in Oak barrels to promote the spontaneous fermentation. Eight Wisconsin malted barleys combined with Wisconsin Montmorency Cherries make for a complex and sublime taste experience that you may never find again.

12oz bottle via trade at DLD split with LJ. pours a very smooth, dark brown with a medium beige head and great lacing. aroma was very nice with notes of sweet black cherry, tart red cherry, burnt wood, roast, and a hint of toffee. flavor was excellent with big, tart cherry notes up front backed by chocolate, roasted nuts, and a long, smokey, roasted coffee finish. palate was smooth and medium bodied. overall, a very solid desert brew.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured dark brown color and an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate dark cherry and sweet malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy tart cherry sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

Bottle. Pour was dark with a dark tan head which lasted for a while. Aroma was strong with cherries, chocolate, and roasted malt. I could taste a bit of oak that came through but did not sour the beer at all. Very well blended brew that should not have been retired. I hope they bring this one back.

Pours a dark brown color with a reddish hue and a small, thin white head that quickly dissipates. The aroma is really nice showing tart cherries, chocolate, and some light roast. There is some hints of old wood and vanilla as well. The flavor follows with the fresh, tart cherries, chocolate, oak, and vanilla. The taste of chocolate covered cherries comes to mind. All the flavors are blended so well and give this such a great taste. Medium bodied, smooth with subtle carbonation that is very easy to drink. This is by no means a stout, but it sure is an awesome fruit beer. Really glad I got to try this one.

Bottle. Cherry nose with an absolutely ton of vanilla oak. Pours dark with red highlights; seemingly much higher ABV than it actually is (I’d have guessed 8.5%). Like a sweet kriek in taste but totally dominated by its barrel character, sweettart layered over some chocolate cake, chocolate, maybe best described as Mexican hot chocolate with something like a cinnamon spiciness coming through, the bite and oak and everything also reminding me somewhat of a german chocolate bar with cherry-and-hot-pepper filling. Curious, curious beer, but relatively enjoyable and I’m extremely glad to have been able to try it.
