This is Danís Gold Medal winning "Unplugged Cherry Stout." This ale is aged in Oak barrels to promote the spontaneous fermentation. Eight Wisconsin malted barleys combined with Wisconsin Montmorency Cherries make for a complex and sublime taste experience that you may never find again.

12oz bottles via DavidP and Duane! - Thanks guys! Pours dark brown with ruby red highlights and a short tan head that fades very quick. Aroma is much cherry with a little roastiness and chocolate behind it. Flavor is sharply sour cherries backed with a pretty nice chocolate and coffee background. Reminds me of chocolate covered cherries mostly. Palate is medium bodied not much carbonation and a little more sour than Iím used to from a stout. I agree with JohnC before me this is really a fruit beer with stout characteristics. How about a flemish stout? Pretty tasty though.. I enjoyed it..

Thanks to Ughsmash for this one. It pours a clear, dark red color with a minimal head. This brew is definitely a fruit beer w/ some stoutiness, not a stout w/ fruit. The flavor at first is a sweet cherry flavor, but finishes tart. The carbonation is mild. Itís interesting and surprisingly, a thirst quencher. Very nice

Pour was dark and fizzy, as was the nose? The head was tan with red highlights. There was a distinct sour cherry nose. DAMN! The taste ran the gamete from Sweet-malty to tart cherry to sour after taste. This one may not be a top 50, but a rare treat and worth experiencing.

reddish brown on the pour with a very fast fading head. nose is oak, vanilla and sour cherries. flavor is more of the same but as this one warms, the tart cherries really come to the fore, middle and tail. even with the strong backbone of cherries, this is a well crafted beer with a nice mix of flavors.

Pours a dark cherry color with quickly diminishing head. Aroma is wood, vanilla, tart cherry. Taste is tart and sour cherries with the oak aged barrel taste following next and finishing with a hint of sweet chocolate and cherry taste. Itís a very complex beer but not my favorite style.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2010 mmmmmmm details cometh sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo new batch of this is oddly similar to belgian red. Still delicious, but the stout component has dropped significantly, like a less sweet (but only slightly) than the red.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2010 Bottles provided by Ughsmash. Transparent very dark mahogany, super carbonated head makes it look like a cola. Head fades to nothing in a matter of seconds. Aroma, has a rather nice sour/tart cherry character to it. Very faint chocolate and spice notes in the background. Maybe cinnamon? I donít know can barely pick it up. Oak, vanilla. Flavor very flemish sour/brown ale-like. Lots of tart cherry initially, through the middle comes across overripe. Faintest chocolate towards the end, with lots of oak/woody tannin like character in the finish. IMO does not resemble a stout but whetever it is, itís very well done. Newer bottle, creamy smooth body, no spice evident, oak/vanilla character is bigger. Seems more well rounded than the first batch.

Very dark brown with a hint oí red. Dominated by tart cherry flavor and scent. Probably a bit unbalanced/ lacking in beer characteristics. Quite good, though, and better than many fruit "beers."

Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. Aroma is very vinuous and loaded with oak. Moderate tart cherry mixed with vanilla and very light chocolate. Pours a mostly transparent dark mahogany with a small beige head with the slightest pink tint. Flavor is loaded with cherries, mostly sweet but some tart. Strong oak notes are present throughout. There is an apple presence that coincides with the cherry. Light vanilla and minimal chocolate. Light roasted coffee can barely sneak by all the cherry and oak in the finish and aftertaste giving it itís only flavor similarity to an actual stout. Mouthfeel is a tad fizzy.

The moment I opened this beer, I instanly though of a lambic style. A very sour and tart acidic aroma of cherry and chocolate. This is complex and I havenít even poured it. Once in the glass, I feel like I am looking at a liquid cake - dark chocolate with sweet cherry drizzled all over it. The body looks somewhat thin, being nearly opaque but lettign enough light shine through that you can see the deep ruby mixed ino the normally brown stout. There was only a fine head that became a thin ring with a few splotches in the middle. A really lite fine carbonation that floods tart cherries into your mouth. Burnt chocolate flavours and an oak flavour that coats the top o fmy mouth. I canít say that I dig the flavour 100%, but I am so impressed with how well everything is blended. Compared to Bellís cherry stout, this is so well made I canít even compare. The cherry compliments the other flavours in this and the oak aging is very well done. Iím going to give this a 20 overall as I think it is perfectly made, despite me not being a huge fan of some of the underlying flavours.
