Commercial Description:
A Complex and intriguing original. The mystery began with wild yeast spontaneously fermenting a rich treasure of malted barley and whole cherries. Unlined oak casks breathe deep vanilla hues and chords of smoke into this sour brown ale. Our Master Brewer has forged a smooth garnet tapestry that defies description. Wander off the beathen path.

Bottle, at HogTown Harry tasting, September 2007. Mid brown colour with a reddish tinge. Lots of fruity cherry, chewy and tart at the same time. Nicely sour with some musty, woody notes. Strong sweet and sour theme runs throughout but it retains a sharp refreshing bite too. Notes not as extensive as I would have liked but I have another bottle so will beef them up shortly. No doubt, though that this is a brilliantly judged and executed beer.

Bottle from Secret Santa (thanks!). Poured reddish-brown with not too much head. Aroma was pretty oaky, along with some cherry hints and vinegar. Flavor was somewhat sour, with some cherries, slightly too dominant vinegar taste. I thought I sensed some buttery white wine in there in a few sips. Palate was average. A good brew, but maybe it’s past its prime.

Deep reddish color. Even deeper cherry/vanilla flavor, kind of tart or even a bit sour, but in a delightful way. tickling to the back of the tongue. smells slightly vinegary, with a slight tinge of apple.

Bottle thanks to drewbeerme. Poured a red-brown color with a minimal off-white head. Quite cloudy. Aroma of cherries and oak, with some vinegar qualities. Initial taste of apples and vanilla that leads into a sour middle hit with undertones of oak and apple. Great taste, nice body. I really liked this.

Reddiesh brown, fairly clear, sediment settled out, minimal white head fades to ring quickly, spotty lacing. Vinegar, tart cherry, oak up front. Hints of vanilla and overripe apples. Flavor much the same. NG cherry/oak character evident at first sip. Vinegar/acidic character mellowed out. Finish is all sour/funk, again very mellowed. Creamy/smooth palate. This is really againg well.

Bottle at Sune’s - Thanks. Unclear red/brown - white head. Balsamic, cherry, coconut, bike-glue, vanilla, light sourness, sweetness, light malty, soft mouthfull, light sparkling feeling on the tongue. Very nice.

RBSG 07 Minneapolis Grand Tasting: Caramel, ruby, light head and lacing. Nose of sweet cake and spice. Lots of yeast and cinnamon/allspice notes. Pumpkin and hoppy brown sugar. The flavor is clean, spicy yet balanced. Very nice. Spicy yeasty ale.
