Commercial Description:
A Complex and intriguing original. The mystery began with wild yeast spontaneously fermenting a rich treasure of malted barley and whole cherries. Unlined oak casks breathe deep vanilla hues and chords of smoke into this sour brown ale. Our Master Brewer has forged a smooth garnet tapestry that defies description. Wander off the beathen path.

These guys can just do flemish sours, period. An intriguing earthy aroma, like wet leaves and cooling earth and pumpkin pie spices. Hints of nuts, vanilla, earthiness, dark sour cherries, winey apples, and plenty of carbonation. Not overly sour but balances sourness with dryness and residual sweetness and some funk. I have couple bottles of this stashed and suspect it will age well. Very good.

A big thanks to footbalm for sending two bottles of this one. I don’t know how well this fits the profile that a Flemish Sour should have, but I am really getting to like this style of beer and so far this has been my favorite of all of them. Small head over a muddy, orange- tinted brown body. Complex aroma of spoiling apples, the aroma of an orchard after a rain in the fall. Nutmeg spice? Tartness. Lightly tart flavor with smooth sweetness. Very very tasty.

Bottle. Pours murky brown, thin off white head. Aroma of cherries, oak, yeast. Nice and tart. Flavor is lots of tart cherries, oak. The oak flavor really comes out the warmer it gets. Slight vinegar aftertaste. Thin to medium body. Really easy to drink for a sour, silky smooth. It doesn’t WOW me with its sourness, but gets points for its drinkability. Good stuff.

Murkey reddish brown with a white, disappearing head. Malt, cherries, vanilla, and even cinnamon flavour. Sourness has some vinegar notes in it. Kind of a mess, but refreshing.

Cloudy Brown, but Fiery Orange in the Light. Sandy Ring. Richly Baked Cherries and Subtle Hints of Wood and Vanilla on the Nose. Medium Mouthfeel. Nice Body. Wonderful Fresh Tart Cherry Flavor...Inset with Rich Malts, Give You What a Flemish Sour Should Give, but Without the Intensity Some Sours have..and the Barrel Aging Characteristics Make This Wonderful.

Bottle from trade. Poured hazy dark reddish-brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Solid balanced woody malt and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth slick texture. Moderate balanced dark fruit flavor with a medium bitter malty finish of average duration. Good brew.

Bottle. Pours murky orange/brown. Wonderful sweet/sour nose consisting of cherry, vanilla, oak and sour fruit. Same for the palate. Quite complex. Very refreshing for how sour it is. Very nicely done.

re-rate 6/2/2008. This has developed absolutely wonderfully! The nose screams vanilla, wood tannin, tart cherry skin. Plenty of tart cherry and wood on the tongue with a very nice sour, malty backbone. Fan-freakin-tastic. This is only going to get better.

Pours caramel brown with a decent head. Aroma of cherries stands out. Very nice sweet and sour combo.
