COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Imperial Saison captured a bold celebratory shout of apricot and peach in a bottle. Both bright and bold this is a lively truly living beer. Bottle conditioned with rare Belgian yeast and soured to illuminate its copper hued body. Ginger and Grains of Paradise promiscuously dance with Styrian Golding hops. Wipe winter from your brow and enjoy now or attempt to resist its siren song and lay down in your cellar.

Bottle shared by Bobbo a while back, during one of my non-rating phases. I have to admit I was a little bit disappointed that one of my favorite American brewers is making an imperial saison. Why not just make a regular gravity saison? Oh well. More gravity seems to increase the estery and sweetness in saisons and this is no different. Some light tart lemon, grassy and herbal notes, sweet melon, some light apple, banana esters.

Hazy amber beer. Thick white head. The head is quite orange and lemon sherbet. Dry palate. Very tart fruit (but not quite sour). Orange and lemon in abundance, enough to make you blink. Even malt base. Undertone of banana. An odd beer and I don’t think it will define the ’Imperial Saison’ style.

355mL thanks to CaptainCougar. Muddy good pour. Weak head formation. White bubbles. Nose is yellow apple pie with esters, mint, cinnamon. Taste is yeasty, tart, yellow apples. Tangy. Sharper. Not really saison. Maybe abbey Tripel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Murky golden with a small white head. Apple cider, nectar fruits, hints of off funk. Very weird and not the best.

12oz, thanks CaptainCougar. Small off-white head atop clear amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, spicy, berry. Taste is moderately sweet, melon/strawberry, light spicy. Medium body, low carbonation, alcohol well-contained. Not particularly saisonish.

Yeasty, slightly sour, and somewhat peppery/spicy on the nose. Appearance is a dirty copper with a bold head leaving nice lacing. Taste is unique...some fruit hits up front (apricot?) before it turns spicy and finishes with a glaring tartness...a puzzling sipper. Something in the finish is a bit odd to be completely honest...nothing unintended (or at least I don’t think) but its just peculiar. Palate starts bold, and finishes a bit thin. as this warmed, the sour character came through and made it a more appealing, yet slow, drink. This has had about 2.5 years in the cellar, and I honestly can’t remember trying it fresh, but this is a very unique brew from NG...but far from my favorite offering by Mr Carey

Thanks to madmitch for that one. Bottle looks really good, simple but good. Beer in the glass brownish, huge head. Starts mild, fine spicy, modest sourish. Fruity notes of plum and melon. Finish intense fruity, mild malty-spicy, still sourish. Not too drinkable, but a beer to enjoy!

Bottle thanks to Ofortuna, thanks man! Poured a lightly hazy amber-orange color with a moderate, dense off-white head that slowly receded to a bubbly layer leaving some small spots of lacing. Aroma of fruits (apricot, peach, lemon), a light spiciness (ginger), a honey-touched breadiness, and a soft tart yeastiness. Smooth, moderately sweet, fruity entry with nice hints of peach and apricot that lingers into a lightly tart, lemony middle that is paired with a lightly spicy, honey graham cracker sweetness that follows into the finish where it lingers softly with some light hints of dry hops peaking through, Crisp, lively carbonation that just asks you to drink it. Overall, it isn’t really a great example of a saison, as others have pointed out. It is a beer that tastes good and has a lively, inviting palate. I wish I would have drank it sooner, but it was still pretty dang good. Thanks again Ofort.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Nice orange to light amber body with a delicious looking off-white cap.. superb lacing. S: Horse farm funk, apricot, peaches, green apple, yeast and slight pepper in the back end. T: Wow. As many here have said a surprisingly tart fruit profile (apricots and peaches)... I like it, it complements the funky/yeasty notes typical to the saison style... nicely spiced... M: Light bodied.. good carbonation levels.. not as crisp as a finish as I’d prefer for the style.. refreshing O: A delightful brew.. I don’t know what an imperial saison is, but I like it! Many thanks to mnjeff for the trade!
