Commercial Description:
Do not waste time attempting to box this brew into some esoteric guide to styles. This is Dan’s bold creation. His passion for unfiltered Weiss collides with Cascade Hops inventing our Imperial Hefe-Weizen. Dry hopping boldly rules over Wisconsin red wheat and our special strain of Bavarian yeast. At almost 20 O.P. this is the super mac daddy of Weiss beers. Decoction mashing was followed by excessive dry hopping to create a fierce onslaught of clove, cinnamon and citrus all in this living beer. Don’t bother waiting to enjoy - the time is now.

Holy smokes, what a Hefe!! Best I’ve ever had. Rich, creamy, loaded with banana, cloves, and citrus... Very strong as well. Careful with this one...

12oz Bottle Recieved this in a recent trade with Mully, thanks again Matt for the great trade! A beautiful pour of a hazed golden. After I swirled the bottle and finished the pour a fog like haziness slowly overtook the polished golden. A soft pour produced an off-white two + finger meringue like head that only fell a half finger and left some really great webbed lacing on its way. A great looking brew! Wow! Intense spiciness in the nose. Big bold clove, banana, orange peel, and lemon greet the nose right away and pretty much dominate. There is a white pepper spiciness in there. Whatever strain of yeast they used....damn, did it create some big aromas. A little too big on the spiciness for my liking. There’s a hint of banana on the finish but it’s not nearly as strong as the nose suggested. The wheat base is evident with a twang upfront before it cools down and lets the fruit come through. Big orange peel and clove mid-palate eventually die down and the wheat twang shows itself again on the swallow. A kind of dusty/chalky yeastiness comes through every now and then. A big weizen without a doubt! The body is a hefty medium with a little stick in the back of the throat. Silky body with a healthy massaging carbonation. The spiciness in here is so big that one bottle in a sitting is enough for me. With that being said, it’s still an enjoyable brew. New Glarus does a great job with everything, but especially their wheat beers. Although hefes arent my favorite style this is another good one although maybe a touch over the top. I’ve fallen in love with their Unplugged Series! 4/21/08

12 oz. bottle. Powerful, sharp, sour, salty, yeasty aroma. Scents of lemon, bubblegum, pickle brine, crabapple, and white wine. Stings the nostrils. Pours a brilliant, cloudy, bright orange. Moderate amount of off-white head. Produces some lacing. Looks awesome! Boozy taste, like a complex version of gin and orange juice, somehow reminiscent of Duvel (but much better). Plum, grape bubblegum, and cotton candy flavors. The taste has the same salty, briny, lemony sharpness as the aroma has. Dry finish. Bitter aftertaste. Medium to heavy body. Oily, lively, sharp, and frothy in the palate. Imperial Weizen is a challenging, unique, and interesting brew. I’m very impressed. It’s not an every day beer, but with all the great beer out there, there’s no way I’m going to be drinking the same beer every day anyway. Thanks to tennisjoel for providing me with this bottle.

Pours a hazy orange with a light off-white head and nice lacings. Very sweet. Aromas of wheat, bubble gum and peacheas. Also hints of alcohol, citrus fruits and raisins. Very full bodied with a sticky mouthfeel. High carbonation. Gives (nice citric hoppy burbs.)

Poured a hazy golden color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of banana, cloves, toffee, honey, floral hops, citrus fruits, almonds, and alcohol. Taste of more honey, some citrus fruits, hop bitterness, vanilla, light nuts, and alcohol.

12 oz bottle. Clouded apple juice with a thick ivory head that ends up like a float. Nose is wheat, lemon grass, orange peel, ginger, clove and coriander. Imperial aroma for sure. A sharp and tangy bite cuts through the wheat smoothness. Taste is concentrated wheat paste with green banana, orange and clove. Finishes dry with bitter spice; a bit medicinal. An interesting experiment but hot for a weizen or maybe that’s the point.

Pours a cloudy golden yellow with big thick frothy white head. This is a Weizen on steroids. Huge banana, clove, citrus. Perfect balance between all elements. High alcohol content is balanced by thick body. Crisp, refreshing, smooth. Everything a weizen should be. This is one of Dan Carrey’s finest achievements. It is rare to find a weizen of this quality in the states.
