Glouglouburp (2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 6, 2008 In short: An intense (not highly drinkable) very-spicy Weizen on steroids. Good but just too much for its own good.
How: Bottle 12oz, first batch, drank 4 months after bottling. From sunevdj, thanks a lot Sune
The look: Opaque peach color topped by a small white head
In long: Strong and complex nose, spicy, fruity and lots of hay. Taste is a lot of dry straws, some banana cake, bubble gum, a lot of cloves and a lot of other herbal spices, some crunchy white sugar, dry orange and lemon peels, a lot of dry bitter hops. Aggressive carbonation. Overall this beer is dry dry dry. 9.6% somewhat apparent. This is a very tasty brew, so tasty in fact that I’d even say this is an aggressive beer. Its intensity really turned me on with the first few sips but by the end of the bottle I thought the beer was a bit too much especially in the cloves and spices department. It’s a good beer but not a very good beer and certainly not an excellent beer like the current ratings indicate. But that’s how it goes on ratebeer: intensity=quality… But I’m rating beer, not sex.
ilovedarkbeer (764), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottle thanks to BMan1113VR via captaincougar. Pours a cloudy golden color with a massive head that I can only describe as "foam, if foam were a popcorn ball." Nose: Lemon, grass, clove, vanilla extract. Taste: subdued hops IMO, booze, banana pudding, orange and other such citrus. Mouthfeel: Silky yet creamy. Not as crisp as most hefes but his beer is pretty dang delicious. BMan1113VR (911), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottle thanks to captaincougar. Didn’t realize the alcohol. Interesting brew. Pours with a large foamy, off-white head and a hazy golden body with very good lacing. Aroma of bananas, alcohol and a lot of citrus hops. Smells like it already has a lemon slice dropped in it. Also some banana and clove deep in the background. Taste is bananas, lemon, orange, clove and vanilla with citrus hops dominating all other flavors. Creamy mouthfeel with light bubbles. Alcohol comes through quite a bit. Really follows the mantra of this experimental series. Taverner (480), San Ramon, California, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle thanks to valpoaj. Thanks! Pours cloudy golden with fluffy white head. Aroma is pure citrus. Flavor is sweet - but ends on a dry note and is fruity with some clove in there. Only an idiot would add a lemon to this stuff. New Glarus makes me want to explore German beers more. Walt (2287), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 19, 2008 Pour is hazed orangey golden with a thin sticky off white head...smell is immediately strongly citricly hoppy with some vanilla and banana and clove as it warms...taste is sweet at first, turning nicely spiced with clove and cinnamon for sure...then a light grapefruit bitterness in the finish....this is the only hefe that I think I might actually put a lemon in...I wonder what that’d be like... glkaiser (999), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 19, 2008 Thanks to bitbucket tasting. Dark blonde. Really fantastic mix of yeast, fruitiness, sweetness and pretty big citrus hops. Fantastic stuff.
