It must be said- this is not a typical Porter, and in some ways, it should not even be compared to other Porters. It has unique context and intent. Pours a dense, reddish chestnut brown with a tan head. Aroma is quite unique - definitively toast, more then any other I?ve tasted, by long way. Flavor is notably into the sour range, perhaps dried sour cherry with a faint malt backdrop.Medium body. It?s interesting because the sour/tart range substitutes for hops. There is residual sugar in the palate though it never comes off as sweet. My favorite part is the nose full of toast you get every time you lift the glass. Unique creation. For the record, this bottle is at least year old.

Smells heavily of toast and a bit of malt. Taste is nice and malty with a hint of sourness that adds a pleasant note to the beer. Low to medium carbonation and medium body.

"i knew this would be unique, and it sure was. notes of a traditional side, but muted, mixed with oak, vanilla, roasted malt. a weird mix for sure, and like has already been said, not a beer i’d return to much, but maybe the most unique beer i;ve ever had."

I brought this one to the Ffej of July Party. I got this in a trade awhile ago but I am just now getting around to drinking it.
A - Pours clear light brown with a nice one finger tall off-white head leaving spotty lacing down the glass.
S - Smells of toasted caramel malt, toffee, coffee, and some light chocolate sweetness help to break up the strong sourness. Along with the vinegary sourness you get hints of cherries and dark fruits.
T - Starts off with a bright acidic sour kick up front slowly giving way to a mix of lightly toasted caramel malt, dark fruits, coffee, chocolate, and cherries. Little to no alcohol can be detected. The finish has quite a bit of sourness, lingering through the finish.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Tart, watery, feel lingering for some time.
O - I actually really liked this one. It was the last beer I had at the party and I think it was the perfect beer to finish with. It is complex, yet classic. The sourness is strong but not to the point of being overpowering. Very nice.

This one was held back a few years by my friend. I had it when it was first available and I remember loving it. Aroma is smoky with some nice oak with alot of roast to it. Pretty crazy concoction and I love it. Smoky dark roasty malts and its very sour and crisp on the front end. It tapers off to a very light oaky finish with a little roast malt. Love it.

Bottle in Vail. Thanks to adnielsen for sharing. Pours an murky brown color with white head. Sweet, roasty, tangy aromas. Malty, tangy, chocolate flavors. Hmm, this might be a little old. Not my favorite New Glarus.

Rated on 9-25-2009 at Fort Wayne, IN Gathering. When poured, this beer forms a small tan head that mostly diminished, transparent brown body, and a fair amount of lacing. The Aroma consist of malt, smoke and sour. The Taste is sour, malt, and smoky. The Palate is smooth and this beer is light bodied. This beer is easy to drink, but I did not care for the sourness given this beer’s style.

From bottle, probably 4+ years old. Nose is tart and mild funk, with a distinct metallic note at first which died out. Oaky with cherry aroma, like a chocolatey Flemish brown ale. Medium-dark brown clear with thin light tan lacing head. Medium watery body with medium to soft carbonation. Starts with soft acidic tang, much like Flemish brown sour, acetic with chocolate malty notes. Caramel and biscuit, too. No hop bitterness. Finish is chocolate with oak and wine-like tartness and fruity acidity. Smooth Tootsie Roll after.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Jeff! Middle brown with some tan and light ruby tints; the gray and beige head is slow to rise, loose, and fades to a wimpy film quickly. Aroma is vinous, wine and grape like sourness with light acidity, cherry skins, mild peaty smoke, a touch of unsweetened cocoa. Tingles the saliva glands, back end. Taste is half porter half Oud bruin, almost. Mild cocoa and smoked and roasty malt, quickly overtaken by a strong cherry skin, vinous oaky, red grape, and acidic tartness. Strange beer, but I kind of like it... Like a mildly smokey Oud bruin or Flemish red. Dry oaky and scraping finish. Cherries, grapes, faint peat, oak.... Wow, so strange & different, but very tasty!

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a sample glass. Pours medium brown with small off-white head. Medium body, well carbonated, and sour aroma. Taste is sharp sour. The marriage of a Flemish brown crossed with a porter, not my thing.
