Bottle at ratebeer tasting at CBC. Pours clear brown with a small yellow head. Heavy funk, hay and shortbread on the nose. Some biscuit and funk in the taste. Light earthiness and hay. Light bitterness on the finish, quite sweet as well. Very easy going. Not bad at all

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Amber in color with a finger of off-white head. A slight vinegar note along with a hint of raspberry and red wine vinegar. Some oak and vanilla notes to it as well. The flavor is rather simple. Fairly acetic with red wine and balsamic vinegar notes. Some dark fruit notes and maybe a little bit of wood/oak.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Traded bottle about a year old or so. Pretty still pour with no real head. Big sour aroma initially and then some fruit and malt. Nice mix of sour cherries and some earthy, oak. Gotta say I really like this and would love some more.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle generously shared by BenC...thanks Ben! - Rosy amber pour with a thin ring of tan head. Sherry sweetness on the nose, with some faint cherry. Caramelly and malty with just a hint of ginger and bit of a tart twang. I can’t imagine this is anything close to the aroma fresh, but it’s interesting. Black cherry taste, deep and dark and overripe. Luscious. The malt is still pretty firm and the sourness comes through more on the finish. Sweet all the way through, but not over the top. A bit fizzy and thin, but wow has this held up well. What I wouldn’t give for a six-pack.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
[Bottle] shared by someone at WtWBA ’10. Pours a clear reddish brown with a small, soapy tan head. Aroma is mostly caramel, light oxidation, and very light lactic tartness. Flavor is sherry, light acetic and lactic acid, and moderate sweetness with that typical rotting fruit character that a lot of the New Glarus sours seem to have in common.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Really looking forward to trying this one! Pours into my glass a murky, opaque brown color with a slight tan head. The aroma is more sweet than sour with notes of caramel and toffe. Slight sourness in the nose but minimal compared to the sweet aromas. The taste is fairly consistent with the nose in that the first sip yields a very sweet caramel/toffee taste that gives way to some mild sourness. Medium mouthfeel. Overall, a decent beer but if you are looking for something actually sour then this is not for you. The sweetness to me would get a little old if I had to drink a lot.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2/24/2010: New Glarus Unplugged Sour Brown Ale... Aroma: Caramelized malts and caramel-covered cherries; subtle Balsamic vinegar. Appearance: Mostly opaque; bubbling, sparkling carbonation (very elegant feature); the fizzy beige head disappears pretty quickly. Flavor: Wow, damn good! Reminds me of New Glarus Belgian Red and Enigma but with a lot more chewy caramel; a touch of creamy yeastiness and smoke in the middle; slightly puckering cherry and slight vinegar quality in the finish. Palate: Medium to medium-full body; smooth. Overall: This is really nice beer that has held up beautifully; probably a bit more toward the sweet side than sour at this point...
12 fl. oz. bottle (twist-off cap) from awaller05 via trade. Thanks Andy! Rating #201 for this beer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured hazy brown color with a minimal fizzy off-white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy sour aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy fruity sweet & sour flavor with a moderate sour finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a complex beer.
