Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Split a bomber and while I liked this “beer” I don’t think more than a glass would be enjoyable. I put beer in quotes because this sure does not taste like a fruit beer. The cheery flavor is so overwhelming this beer is more like a cherry cider. However an interesting stimulation of the taste buds.

Bottle at a tasting; really lucky to have had this. color was brownish red with an off white head. Aroma of sweet cherry with some general maltiness. Flavor was fairly sweet with a whole damn lot of cherries. It was a bit medicinal, but not too negatively. Slightly cloying. Good for the style.

Jesus what a beer. Nice ruby pour, not much of a head. Aroma of cherries and more cherries. Flavor is pure tart cherry fruit roll ups. Damn this one is so delicious. YES!

Courtesy of Fishingnet. Pours deep red/ruby with white head. Aroma is loaded with fresh cherries. Taste is fantastic. New Glarus has outdone itself on this one. Fresh cherries all over with a light tart note. Perfect mix between the hops and malts, making the beer not too bitter. Highly drinkable. Something you will want to sip on and enjoy for a while. Rerate update. Enjoyed some more of this beer, and truly is an amazing experience. New Glarus has hit the target with the best cherry beer that remains enjoyable, drinkable from beginning to end. Pure goodness.

Bottle, flute. Aroma of tart cherries, slightly acetic, floral notes in the background. Cloudy orange-red, medium coral-colored head leaves vertical streaks of lace on the glass. Immense flavor of sweet-tart cherries. The tartness and carbonation provide a prickly mouthfeel that lasts ages on the tongue. All other flavors are a supporting cast, but are there: malts give a brown sugar cast to the sweetness, and a mellowness underneath all the sparkles on the palate. Hops add a touch of grapefruit to the tartness in the finish. Aromas of generalized tart fruit float through the mouth long after the mouth is empty, and licking the lips revives the sweet cherry.

Bottle shared at the CA-GA cultural beer exchange hosted by alexanderj. Nice reddish brown pour. Aroma is cherries, very nice, and mostly sweet. Flavor is the same, nice sweet cherries but also some sour cherry skins. Really good blend; I really like good fruit beers.

This beer is truly decadent. It’s like candy. Pour this into a wide-mouth glass to see how viscous it is and it’s dark ruby color. Take a big whiff - there’s no hop aroma there, but a deep, strong, dark cherry aroma. When drinking it, you’ll notice just how full bodied it is and how the cherry flavor coats your mouth. It’s almost like a sweet cherry syrup with fizzy undertones. It leaves you with a nice warm cherry flavor in your mouth. Imagine a cherry lambic without the funk aroma, flavor bite, or throaty aftertaste. This is a treat. I make special trips into Wisconsin for this.

Bottle thanks to bgramer. Thanks! Pours dark ruby amber with a big pinkish white head that fades and leaves some lacing. Smell is huge candied cherries and a slight earthy tartness. Taste is similar with a musty candied cherry flavor and a slight tartness. Really delicious fruit beer. Smooth on the palate and easy drinking.
