Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Cloudy red plum color and tight fizzy champagne-like head that faded fast. Musty, fermented cherry aroma. Complex flavor of dark ripe cherries. Sour and acidic but not mouth-puckering, moderately sweet, and some nice bitterness. Oak comes through in the flavor. Has some tannic qualities as well. Better than New Belgium La Folie, this is a terrific concoction. Thanks CaptainCougar.

I’ve drunk so many of these bottles, it’s hard to believe I haven’t rated it before. In any event, my latest taster was at Joebrew’s grand opening tasting. This was a true gem as I’d rememberd but somehow this ears baches of new glarus fruit beers was BETTER than I remembered. An intense cherry aroma and flavor with a thick mouthfeel and mild tartness. True cherry flavor mind you, none of that cough syrup crap. Red color with faint head.

Re-rate based on several bottles since my original tasting back in the early days! Repeated sips have really demonstrated how phenomenal this beer is, one of the best available malt beverages on the market. The sour cherry, oak, and sharp carbonation combine for an experience unrivaled in this style. Buy yourself a case.

Rating #300
My favorite beer at the Fort Wayne tasting. Poured cloudy orange-red-brown, with an off-white head. Three distinct aromas: cherry, cherry, and cherry. Flavor was dominated, as expected, by these very cherries, although the fruitiness was nicely balanced by cinnamon and woodiness. The palate was remarkable- this is the smoothest fruit beer (OK- I see this is a Flemish Sour...) I’ve tried, and the carbonation perfectly complemented the slightly sour, spicy flavor. Remarkable. Original rating: 8-4-8-4-17 (4.1)

March 2008 Rerate
I love this beer so much. I don’t see how it could taste or smell any better than it does.
August 20th 2006 re-rate.
Met up with a BA/RB guy from Wisconsin who owns Murray’s Wine and Spirits and he brought me 2 each of the Red and Raspberry. Still a beautiful beer, but this time I felt it lacked some of the encompassing malt aspects that worked to contain the fruit aspects. I still love that sparkling pop-rock like tingle it leaves on the tongue. I badly wish this beer were availible here.
Original rating..4.6
Courtesy of The_Enemey.
Ohh my god that is the best smell in the world. Rich ripe, sweet cherries and cherry puree. It smells like the filling of an expensively made cherry pastry. It’s just fantastic smelling that’s all that can be said. Faded pink/light red in color with a thin white film of a head. Jeez this brewery makes incredible fruit beers. Fore is full of cherry, spritzy carbonation, mild acidic citric notes toward the finish. The middle has ever so slightly sour notes, some nuttiness and a smooth icing laden fried, flaky sweet dough flavor that carries into the finish. This really is a liquid Cherry Fritter and it is utterly amazing. This is the kind of beer that gets you excited all over again about what beer is and can be.

Jewel red out of the bottle with a redish/orangish foam head. The nose is all cherries and reminded me of the filling to a Hostess cherry fruit pie. Very bubbly on the tongue. My little sister thinks it tastes like a wine cooler and my Dad says it tastes like crap. I think it tastes like cherries. Very tastey real cherries and not the fakey artificial flavors in most beers. It does taste like a cherry pop. I like this well enough, but I don’t get why it is so highly rated.

Bottled thanks to Martin. Hazy and deep reddish in colour with a medium sized pinkish head. Wow! Cherry, cherry and more cherry. Very creamy and well balanced.
